Valve have pushed out a new Steam Play beta with DXVK 0.80 and more

Quoting: Comandante Ñoñardo3.7-7 beta is here..
Good job, Valve!

But....
Proton must be an "out of the box" experience without any workarounds or Protontricks [External Link] needed...
And that's why Proton Devs MUST focus first in the compatibility with the Big AAA games and BIG Franchises..
Call of Duty's... The Bioshock's (We have Infinite, now give Us the rest of the franchise).. The Batman games.. The Resident Evil franchise... Fallout 4... The Elder scrolls V: Skyrim... The Witcher's (We have the number 2, We want 1 and 3).. etc..

Unless Valve start to add more and more games to the white list, something tells me that Proton/Steamplay will never leave the Beta stage..
What makes you think that this is not what they aim for? Please have some patience :). Give it another year and lets see then where we are..

Feral Interactive are teasing ANOTHER new Linux port

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Potentially good news but WB did kill Batman after approving feral to port it so 50/50
Batman: Arkham Night had quite bad initial reception on Windows. It took them months to make it playable, but it already got a lot of bad press by that time. My guess is, that their decision to cancel the port was because of that, rather than some problems with Feral Interactive.
The game is quite demanding and Vulkan wasn't yet an option at that time, I guess it simply didn't performed when being translated to OpenGL. The initial bad reception certainly didn't helped either.

Quoting: jensAs far as I know they announce as soon as they are allowed to. You know what an NDA is?
I will tell you what it is not: it is no excuse from criticisms.
Then you should criticize the one forcing Feral to sign the NDA and not Feral who have no choice what so ever in the matter (other than not signing a NDA and thus not porting the game either).
I must confess to a little bit of confusion here.

Does anyone actually *know* that there is one or several existing NDA(s) that prevents Feral from saying which linux ports they are currently working on, forcing them to resort to hints and vague suggestions. Or is this just general speculation, that such NDA(s) might possibly exist, or just as likely might not?

I have no idea to what extent NDAs are used in the gaming buisness, nor in what situations they might be viewed as unnessecary or irrelevamt to the situation in question.
I thought that I read it somewhere here or in their twitter feed that they announce as soon as they are allowed to do so and that the radar is a way to give some hint before that point in time.

I cannot find a reason why it should be otherwise, especially now with Steam Play I guess you would want to announce as soon as possible. No idea though what a reason could be to withhold an announcement, may be that negotiations are not finalized? Dunno..

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoWith Proton doing a good job for the gaming on Linux, Feral really should STOP with these silly things and just announce the games.

On-topic: F1 2018, Life is Strange2, Hitman 2 or Shadow of the Tomb Raider would fit with Feral's history, though no clue from the hints.
Then don't announce anything until the NDA expires.

I agree with Comandante Ñoñardo, at this point in time, it seems a bit silly to start these guessing games.
Then why not just ignore this thread?

Transhuman Design has removed the Linux version of BUTCHER due to issues in favour of Steam Play (updated)

Quoting: jensWhy is it so important how the game is packaged and compiled? It should perform, should be stable and the developer/publisher should know that the money came from Linux. I'm fine if these three conditions are given.
That's how I feel about a lot of this stuff, to the end user (the actual gamer) it should matter, everything behind the scenes should be invisible to you.

Part of the problem though is what I mentioned, Steam Play titles don't currently show as a Linux game on the store + the problems then other stores have. We don't want to end up having Steam lock-in. As much as I value what Valve does, the last thing I want is them getting everything and other stores getting nothing.
Yes, as stated, I get the issue with other stores. Though it is no actual lock-in, Valve does not prevent GOG or itch.io to setup something similar to proton.

Edit: Lots of typos.
I'm not saying it will create lock-in since Proton is open source, but the reality is developers who end up relying on it will not do Linux versions and since they will then put even less effort in, the chances of them bundling it for other stores IMO is zero.
Yes, I think too that this is very likely to happen if Value is the only store that offers such a "packaging" solution for Linux. Not sure though what is better, much more visible Linux users on Steam vs less releases on other stores. I don't know, time will tell. My hope is still that more visible users will get Linux earlier on the agenda for developers, though that will take some time and requires lots (really a lot) of new Linux users.

(That said: I use Steam, but I get the issue in this specific case if one prefers another store.)
