Ballistic Overkill to get Vulkan support tomorrow and lots more

Can this be bought on steam and then played without the steam client? Nothing 32-bits to ever touch my system.

Ellipsis, an action-packed Avoid ’Em Up is now on Linux, it's rather good

I've been super hyped for this game since I first saw someone post Linux beta footage on /r/linux_gaming. Asked a dev about DRM-free version back then and he said they'd try to get it out some time after initial Steam release. Hope it's still coming.

A guide to crowdfunding games and the risks involved, the Linux edition

Quoting: Shmerl... I'm willing to take some more risk as a Linux user than usual, just to demonstrate said demand.

But there lies a problem, you *cannot* demonstrate Linux demand. Not until there is some "Linux or money back" checkbox when you pledge.

A guide to crowdfunding games and the risks involved, the Linux edition

Is there a legal basis for crowdfunding? I looked around a bit but couldn't find anything.

Say, how does it actually compare to classic VC? What are the rights and obligations of both the investor and the investee? I remember this, I think it was with Peter Molyneux, interview. It was said that just to reach the funding goal -- because it is all or nothing -- they started promising effectively BS. Where does "risk" end and intentional misinformation start?

Is it legally on the same level as a lottery? You throw some money in and maybe you get something? Because that's what it looks like to me. Just gambling.

I've been staying away from crowdfunding and will probably continue to do so.

Dead Cells, a roguelike and castlevania-inspired action-platformer looks amazing and heading to Linux

The art looks nice. Any plans for DRM-free on release?

That aside, I've been wondering about the probability of a game being platformer or roguelike/-lite given it is an indie.

We now have a Matrix chat room setup with an IRC bridge if you want to join

Thumbs for Matrix!

I'm not sure if any client other than Riot (Web, Android, iOS) supports e2e atm

Riot is pretty nifty as is, but there are still some issues with encryption on multiple devices.

Linux market-share on Steam dropped 0.08% in December 2016
21 January 2017 at 8:19 pm UTC

I stumbled upon this article about the growth on Steam, the data coming from the Steam Dev Days 2016 (didn't bother looking for an official URL for the slides):

http://boilingsteam.com/steam-dev-days-organic-growth-and-rising-asia/

The one feasible solution to this problem is regional growth differences. Assuming that the dominating markets w.r.t. growth have lower Linux market share, it is obvious that Linux shares on Steam drop overall.

We could now start to discuss which regions have more or less Linux market shares, but I don't know of anything beyond prejudice to back any claims.

Linux market-share on Steam dropped 0.08% in December 2016

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionNot directed at you. Just the inevitable responses to any time this number goes down.

Thing is, Valve isn't particularly clear how those numbers come to be.

Just recently someone on reddit told me that there was apparently a steam dev or something talk about this once. Some data, including the OS shares, are coming from Steam's telemetry. Things like hardware distribution on the other hand is extrapolated from the surveys. I didn't watch the talk, but that's what I was told.

That would mean that some numbers are pretty accurate, some are less so. But unless Valve puts this information on an about page for people to link to, you'll never get rid of this notion of overall inaccuracy (maybe there is a page I don't know about?).

This reminds me so much of Luftrausers. But with swords.

Great to see them going for itch.io.

Editorial: A chat about asking developers for a Linux port
7 December 2016 at 8:16 pm UTC

QuoteIt has come to my attention recently that some people have been taking a really hard stance against developers who want to gauge interest for a Linux port.

Can you link some examples? I'm not actively reading the Steam forums, so maybe I'm out of the loop?

The discussion in the comments here also seems to go all over the place, touching various issues.
