X-Blades now has a Linux beta powered by Wine

I like how Topware is slowly porting (in wine, but still!) their entire catalog. This is a good move and more developers should follow for the games that are old and/or can't to receive a native port, but work great in Wine. I know you can always use wine yourself, but here you have it officially supported from the native client that counts as both Linux Steam in case hardware survey pops and as a purchase for developers info.

Just look here for the reference, here's all TopWare games in SteamDB - just to see what they have ported and what's possibly to come :) - SteamDB

If you act fast you can grab a key for the demo of Disgaea 2 and it runs on Linux already

It runs really well, though I did have some issues with introduction video slowing down. Nothing major though, as after it the main game runs fine. Also, the videos are available as .ogm files in the game folder, so you can rewatch them :)

I played a demo for over an hour, never played Disgaea before as I never had a console, so it was my first experience with the series - much reading if you want to read all the tutorials, but at least they experience all the mechanics at the funny way :P. If you like turn-based strategy games or a game of chess, I could readily recommend to try the game, especially as it have the demo - it also have a specific humor, too :)

The graphics are not remastered, but the menu and the opening video look really sharp, which is nice. Overall, it was really nice to see a console game coming to Linux. It seems it's their first Mac/Linux game on Steam so far. Too bad the original one doesn't have a port, as it would be nice to play it first, but if they decide to do it in the future, I will definitely buy it sooner or later :P

32-bit Linux distributions are no longer supported by Steam, Steam Web Browser disabled

Quoting: FredOIf i'm not completely mistaken, the Steam client uses Chromium as its browser backend. Chrom(ium) dropped support for 32bit in about version 46-48(?), so maybe Valve doesn't have much choice in the matter if they keep using Chromium.
Chromium v55.0.2883 browser works fine on my wife's Asus Eee 901 32-bit Arch (the CPU don't support 64-bit at all), which actually is funny as the patch log says that they upgarded to "CEF v55.0.2883" (CEF = Chromium Embedded Framework), so the same browser core that works fine standalone.
Can't say anything about the official Chromium team's support though, but at least it works fine :)

Quoting: Xpander32bit should die allready.. seriously.

make the client fully 64bit also!

No, then people would lose access to the ability to download games that they've paid for the right to play. There must be some alternative in that case: some way to download the game itself on a 32bit system.
I actually thought it might be a good idea for Valve to release a minimalistic/light client just to allow to download (and play!) the games, if they're going this route. Most of the Steam community functionality can be done by logging on a browser or even using the Steam smartphone app, so that would be a nice way to utilize an old or under-powered device to play games without worrying too much to maintain compatibility with the new features other than downloading, playing and maybe time tracking, achievements and handling friend game invites. One could dream, huh? But maybe...

Also, as this was so far my first GOL article, thank you liam for publishing it and everything for commenting!

The developers of 'Darksiders' comment on the Linux version, they couldn't fix the issues
30 November 2016 at 6:45 am UTC

Quoting: m2mg2I think it is pretty clear they never even worked on it. All progress stopped once the new guy took over, he probably does not know Linux at all so they just started working on Windows projects exclusively.

They were, but indeed it was before the linux developer left, which is sad. There's also the encrypted Linux betas on Steam, that's why SteamDB list it as having a sign of Linux Support. As long as they still have the code, they might pick it up someday eventually, but yeah, the current focus will be at Warmastered Edition and not the regular one for sure.

You might want to avoid the Nvidia 375.20 driver, Nvidia recommend downgrading

Steam's Autumn sale to begin soon, date also leaked for the Winter sale

I recently (few days ago recently) switched fully to Linux and while I'm considering dual booting or GPU Passhtrough for the select games, after trying Euro Truck Simulator 2 on Linux I'm really happy with its performance :). While I think I lost a few FPSes I was able to bump the setting at the cost of a few frames due to the fact that while in borderless windowed mode the game runs poor, in fullscreen mode the game run incredibly well even with 400% scaling.

Hopefully the new Vive La France DLC will be out on a sale and tiny discounted, so I will be able to grab it to enjoy on Linux, and if not I'll at least buy some of the paintjobs just to show devs the appreciation :P
