Developers and Publishers to get their own special pages on Steam this month

I'm cool with this so long as we can get a "Not Interested" button on developer/publisher pages, so that I no longer have to do it for every individual game released by a company I'm boycotting.
Can't wait for that UI overhaul, either. Hopefully they'll add the ability to ZOOM THE FUCK IN which would bring it slightly closer to being up to date with the features found in 20-year-old web browsers.

And a protest would draw in much more spectators. Naylor didn't even address his son's point, he just went on attacking his character and credibility right out the gates, to his face, in public.
Put them on the defensive by having their offices photographed and filmed with a bunch of people outside holding signs calling them book burners and such. These people are lobbyists, they cause trouble and they wait for people to notice and respond. I'm suggesting we try beating them at their own game.
It wouldn't be hard to call them racists, either. The games they've targeted are made in the Japanese anime art style. Western-style games such as GTAV and TW3 seem to have flown right over their radar, despite being a million times more popular and profitable.
These days, secular-based shaming is more effective than religious-based shaming. They will lose if we fight them hard enough. Racist groups have been known to have their tax exemptions threatened in the United States. Even the Mormons had to cave and allow black ministers at the 11th hour, and those guys are loaded with money.
If we force them to acknowledge sexual themes in Western games and they stick to their principles, they'll have Rockstar to answer to. You know, the same company that made $500,000,000 in microtransactions alone? I'd love to see these bitches go up against THOSE lawyers.

Quoting: GuestYou cannot de-moronize this kind of people and antagonizing them usually reinforce their determination. It's not about changing their minds. It's about changing the minds of everyone watching. If you've seen Thank You for Smoking, think back on Naylor's "debate" with his son over vanilla vs. chocolate ice cream.

Anyone living in D.C. wanna organize a protest? I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to get enough pissed off Steam users to participate and scare the hell out of them. Nothing violent, of course, just get loud and obnoxious, make it harder for them to get into their parking spaces, that sort of thing.

Well, shit. I guess now that they're making it harder to jack off to cartoons, I better go gas up the white, windowless van with "FREE PUPPIES AND CANDY" spraypainted on the side of it and hang out by an elementary school. Only way I'm gonna get my rocks off, now. Thanks, Valve, for making my community safer! Now where did I put that bottle of chloroform?
doesn't apply domestically, but only if you're taking the material across the border.
If possessing drawings of underage characters designed for sexual gratification is illegal in Canada, I personally know dozens of people who have managed to dodge prison for years despite not using Tor or a VPN. If there is such a law,it's not enforced unless you're at the border. Just don't try to travel with any of that and you'll be fine.
EDIT: Okay, I did a bit more research. I think it's based on a broad interpretation of the Canadian Criminal Code, Part V, Section 163(7) and Section 163.1(1). From what little enforcement I've seen, I bet they use it for stacking charges after they've already nabbed people on other offences. I hate my country sometimes.

Quoting: KithopMy understanding is that here in Canada, simple drawings of underage characters 'designed for sexual gratification' can get you in serious trouble, potentially jail time. There was one case of a guy coming into Canada who had some anime titty porn on his laptop. If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure they nabbed him on some vague export law that

The Witcher 3 didn't come to Linux likely as a result of the user-backlash from The Witcher 2

Okay, that does it. I actually went and checked out the reddit thread. Wow, just wow...
Quoting: jaycee_1980[people who criticized us for using wrappers] also sent a lot of vicious vitriolic hate mail to both us at VP AND to people at CD Project RED.That's quite the generalization. I hate the notion of using wrappers, does that mean I hate you, too? Yes, I'm criticising your software design decisions, and possibly even your talent and worth as a software developer, but that doesn't mean I'm one of the same people who is devaluing you as a person. Learning to recognize the difference between attacks on your ego and attacks on you as a human being is a fundamental skill in life that you would do well to learn. It will bring you peace and clarity.

Whoever wrote that NDA should have made it even more restrictive, especially with regards to press relations. To even speculate that your former employer would choose to forgo the sales opportunities of making a port of a very successful game based on emotional reasons could have lasting, damaging effects on VP's bottom line. After all, who wants to invest in a company that's known for letting feelings get in the way of profits?
Also, was "I hope you die" and being contacted via email and your personal social media accounts really the worst things got? I guess no one showed up to your house or anything like that, you would have mentioned that if it had happened. Sounds like you got off pretty easy, man! Just so you know, most social media sites allow you to lock down your accounts to prevent random strangers from contacting you, which is especially helpful on a personal account that's kept separate from your work account. This way you can personally vet whoever sends you messages, posts on your profile and sees pictures of your children before they're granted access. The help pages of these websites will help you understand how to properly configure these privacy settings. With regards to email, similar filtering methods are available, consult the help pages of your mail service, mail client or mail processing agent. Personally, I recommend procmail. That all being said, welcome to the Internet! Sorry to hear that it's been a scary start for you.

Quoting: GuestLet me get this straight. Your NDA won't let you say whether or not your former employer was approached for a job, but your NDA does allow you to openly speculate to the media -- as an inside source of information -- on the financial decision making process of your former employer, in the event they were approached for said job.Quoting: ShmerlDid CDPR approach VP about TW3 for Linux at all, or it didn't even come to that?If I knew the answer to this, I would not be allowed to disclose it due to NDA. Sorry.

Quoting: GBeeIf a store owner gets people walking in off the street and abusing him personally, would anyone actually question the decision to close up their store and walk away? This situation is more akin to a store owner being abused by a few angry customers in wheelchairs angry over substandard ramps and rickety elevators, and the store owner spitefully removing all the ramps and elevators as a result, while still continuing to run the store for able-bodied customers. Nobody said anything about closing up, this is about disaccomodating a specific group of people.

When the challenge is porting to Linux, Linux users are seen as a fragmented bunch, all with difficult to understand wants and needs, packages and configurations, philosophies and implementations, none of them being capable of helping in any constructive fashion. Of course, this isn't true, but it's an easy stereotype to lean on when you want to be lazy and not learn how to write software correctly.
When the challenge is dealing with angry trolls who use Linux, Linux users are seen as a united bunch, all completely on the same level of anger, inappropriateness and downright criminality, none of them being capable of helping in any constructive fashion. Exhibit A:
Event: Highly-anticipated Game X gets released on Windows with a completely inexcusable amount of problems.
Result: Amongst the constructive criticism and less-eloquent (but still well-deserved) bashing of the quality of the product itself, a small minority of Windows users take things way too far, escalating to harassment, threats, insults and libel towards the developers of the game itself.
Conclusion: These angry, vitriolic people, while inappropriate in their actions, were still just speaking for themselves and their own emotions. The operating system chosen by both the developers and the users had nothing to do with the inappropriate behaviour of some of the game's worst critics. Users of Windows, while united by their choice of operating system and their penchant for helping each other troubleshoot and understand the complexities of their OS, are not expected to make good examples of themselves as a "community" on any public relations level, because there's a corporation officially handling that side of the business. Ultimately, the anger stemmed from the product being flawed in the first place.

Ultimately, the anger stemmed from the product being flawed in the first place.

Event: Highly-anticipated Game X gets released on (or ported to) Linux with a completely inexcusable amount of problems.
Result: Amongst the constructive criticism and less-eloquent (but still well-deserved) bashing of the quality of the product itself, a small minority of Linux users take things way too far, escalating to harassment, threats, insults and libel towards the developers of the game itself.
Conclusion: These angry, vitriolic people were inappropriate in their actions. Furthermore, they were speaking on the behalf of the community of Linux users as a whole, despite the aforementioned constructive criticism and attacks directed towards an inanimate object, which obviously doesn't count, because feelings were hurt. Users of Linux, because of how they are united by their choice of operating system and their penchant for helping each other troubleshoot and understand the complexities of their OS, and because of how small a user base they're representing, should be completely expected to make good examples of themselves as a "community" on a public relations level, despite the existence of many private and public corporations that deal in PR for various distributions of Linux, as well as the kernel itself being managed by a registered nonprofit. Ultimately, the anger stemmed from Linux users being far too quick to judge, having far too high standards, not giving the developers enough time to fix the problems post-release and not being able to rein in and censor the worst of their people.

Hmm. I always knew that Windows and Mac OS liked to break standards, but I didn't realise things were this bad.
