Quoting: QdaxfaInteresting. I use SteamOS in the living room so no Steam no bucks.Quoting: GrazenI can't find this one Steam. Is it because they pulled until the launch or is it not available at all on Steam? It is not on steam and will not be for a while. They had a green light page but that was only for advertising
They said that they are going to revisit it post release https://forum.albiononline.com/index.php/Thread/29113-Will-they-release-the-game-on-Steam/?postID=464782#post464782 [External Link]

The Witcher 3 didn't come to Linux likely as a result of the user-backlash from The Witcher 2

I don't want to say what I really think about this statement because it borders on vitriol. Let me just say that it doesn't matter if they don't want to support my platform of choice, there's plenty of others that do.

I think that there will be a second generation of the Steambox but it will be focused on VR (though it will also play games). Valve has focused a lot of time on VR and ultimately if all VR games are designed to support SteamOS (which appears to be what's happening) a future SteamVR hardware bundle makes a lot of sense.

I've got my Alienware X51 (4700 with GTX 1060 and 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD) connected to my UHD TV in the living room running SteamOS (beta) full time. Works like a charm though 4K support in many games is lacking. I'd be all in for an AMD based Steam Machine. Bring it on!

I found that it worked well on my machine (i7 4790 with GTX 1060) and I really enjoyed the gameplay. Steam Controller worked well on it too. I supported it at the $59 level and hope they get it done.
It is disappointing that there's 4K support on Windows but only 1080p support on Linux. I'm Kickstarting it for the Linux support but unless this changes I'll end up (*shock*) playing it on Windows.

Is Vive working on Linux? Last I checked it was in early beta with minimal game support...
Daedalic Entertainment will be bringing Ken Follett's 'The Pillars of the Earth' to Linux

Book is great, though it's a slow start. I'm pretty sure I read it when it first came out. Follet followed that up with a trilogy on the world war to the 1980's (Fall of Giants) that followed the Mass Effect Model, started off really strong and ended in utter disappointment.

It doesn't support 4K resolutions on Linux but they are fully supported on Windows :(

In order for SteamOS to succeed there has to be a clear advantage for the consumer. The primary concerns for main stream gamers are games (quality and quantity), performance and price. Steam Machines were launched at essentially the same price as Windows based machines with equivalent specs, provided a smaller library of games with no platform specific exclusives and performed worse. Why would anybody (I'm talking mainstream gamers here) use it?
I don't think Valve will offer SteamOS exclusives, so that's off the table. Vulkan is making strides but we're a ways away from outperforming Windows based games. Optimization would help, and we see some great performance from Valve games, but most publishers don't have an incentive to optimize Linux games. In terms of the library, Valve could encourage Linux / Mac versions by offering a discount to publishers for sales on those platforms, but Valve has proven reluctant on that front.
So what's gonna change to make SteamOS a viable platform?
PS - Valve should be worried. I see on the latest fast track build of Windows that there is now an option to restrict all software to Windows Store items alone.
