And since I've never used them before, can you clarify if these are Steam Keys and counted as Linux sales?

Hmmm, just checked and some of these actually have DRM-free downloads too. Is that via Games Republic, or is a Humble/GoG tie-in?

XCOM 2 strategy game reviewed on Linux

Quoting: Segata SanshiroThis time we see 10 American, 4 English and 2 Australian voices (which is an improvement from the last game) but seriously, could some of those American ones not been Scottish, Irish or South African?
Actually there's definitely one Scottish and one Irish in there, but I think they're just described as UK voices. Sadly, no Welsh representation.

Tweaking Performance in XCOM 2

Quoting: dubigrasuThe PoolSize is a proven tweak for UE3 titles, but why would I set
MaxSmoothedFrameRate to 400?
Good question! The original source suggests "leaving" this at 400, but I found my setting was actually 62. I bumped it up to 400 because I have no experience to argue against an obviously knowledgeable UE3 tester, but since that advice came from 2013, it may well be flawed. 400 does seem a bit on the high side and potentially risks running your card hot generating frames that your screen can't draw and your eyes are incapable of discerning.

Of course, if this was CS:GO, you'd have some folk argue that 400 isn't really high enough... :)

Tweaking Performance in XCOM 2

Quoting: TuxeeWTF? Changed XComEngine.ini to bigger pool size and ThreadedShaderCompileThreshold to 2. chown'ed the file to root:root and gave it a 0755. Guess what? It got both reowned by the "me" and chmod'ed to 0770 again. How can that be? Any suggestions?
Anyway, contrary to the article my settings were not reverted - pool size is still 512 and the compile threshold still 2.
The only way that should be possible is if you're running Steam as root, which would (obviously) be a terrible idea. Beyond that possibility, you have a serious flaw on your box if you're seeing root-owned files being chowned by non-root processes...

Did the game improve for you though? That's the most important thing. :D

Valve have finally fixed the upcoming SteamOS & Linux game filter, nearly a year later

Quoting: nattydreadI really wish they could fix the scaling for high resolution displays.
I have a 4k TV and can hardly see the words! I have to use a magnifying tool to use steam
(when not in big picture mode).
Not a perfect solution, but have you tried the Compiz "Enhanced Zoom" function? I made a 30s video about it a few years ago.

But yeah, c'mon Valve. That said, they've only been aware of this bug for 18 months [External Link], so realistically we've got a few years yet for any hope of a fix going by their current shameless bug fixing record.

Gothic RPG roguelike Darkest Dungeon coming soon to Linux

Quoting: FeistThere has been a bit of negativity during the "ea" period for the game, I think the gist of it, is that the development has made the game more challenging/frustrating for players with a bit too much "grinding". Obviously, I don´t know how I´ll feel about that yet but everything I´ve seen from it makes me fairly certain that this game will be a lot of fun to play until the frustration (hypothetically) kicks in.

Sooo...still pretty hyped! :)
For the negativity, I think this review [External Link] sums it up perfectly. Early Access might have great value for the developer, but it's still often hugely misunderstood by the "playtesters" themselves and in this case, it's caused a massive backlash in the form of negative reviews. Annoyingly, this causes so much noise, it's impossible to know if a negative review holds value or not. I wish they'd clear reviews after the EA period is complete. A game should be judged on the end result, not the journey it took to get there.

Quoting: Renzatic GearIt up on GOG, so the DRM-free promise looks to already be covered.

Great catch. In addition to the tweets and forums searches, I also visited their webpage where "Purchase" takes you directly to Steam and finally a Google search for "Darkest Dungeon DRM-free" which highlighted a wishlist item on GoG, but not the title!

I even searched Humble and found the title, but on Humble, it's just a link to a Steam key.

Very odd. Thanks for pointing that out though. The article's been updated to remove the DRM reference.

SUPERHOT, the stylish time-bending shooter will release this month, new trailer too

Quoting: PublicNuisanceLoving what I see of the game so far. Supposed to have a DRM free version of the LInux copy available from what I can see which will check all of my boxes. February is shapiong up to be a good month for games. Firewatch and this have me very happy.
Yeah, highjacking a little here, but Firewatch looks AMAZING. Can't wait for that. And of course, XCom2 this Friday. Superb.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Linux & SteamOS port has been put on hold

Quoting: PublicNuisanceSad news. I've been putting off playing my copy hoping for a Linux version. You win some you lose some.
I'm glad you're up front that you've already bought it.

It really doesn't help that quite a few folk on Steam forums come out with "do a Linux port, then I'll buy it", when there's a pretty obvious icon next to their name that highlights the fact that they've already bought it. It happens in a lot of the "Please give us a Linux version" threads I'm subscribed to.

Some devs might do a Linux version out the kindness of their heart, but most studios will want to see some kind of return on effort. So a thread with 200 pleas to make a Linux version will lose a lot of credibility when 50%+ of those posts have already bought it.
