The Big Three Build Engine Games On GOG
23 Jun 2015 at 8:50 pm UTC Likes: 4

Quoting: CybaCowboyI don't get it - at least two of these games (Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior) and possibly the third (Blood - but I'm unfamiliar with the title) have been available on GOG.com (and via other stores) for ages... Am I missing something?
Shadow Warrior and Blood only received their Linux releases on GOG over the past few months, but even if they had been around forever, I fail to see why that would preclude me from reviewing them.

Shadow Warrior 2 FPS Gameplay Videos, Looks Insane, Will Be On Linux

Quoting: GuestHaven’t finished Shadow Warrior 1 yet, probably won’t buy that one. Too basic… just follow the corridor and kill the enemies…
Funny, because at least this game actually encourages some level of exploration and deviation from path unlike most modern shooters, and allows for some ancillary actions.

Quoting: tony1abFolks. How is the performance of the first game for you? ... amd r9 260x. core i7 2990. 16 gig ram ... Funny thing is, If i swicht settings to high I have 23 fps. If I switch to medium, i have 23 fps. And if I switch to low, I have 23 fps...
Radeon HD 5670. AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE. 4 GB of RAM. r600g. And I am still getting on average more frames than you. :|

Main issue for me is the variance in frame-rate, as in some places I can peak at over 100 FPS with vsync turned off and in other places I can get frames in the high-teens. The mode average would be around 30 FPS for me though, which is perfectly playable.

I can confirm that quality settings do not make much of a difference for me as well though.

Shadow Warrior 2 Announced, Seems to Be Getting a Linux port

The game already has a GOG.com page as well, but so far it lists it as being Windows only:

It is probably a safe bet that will change if the Steam page is accurate though.

So they turned it into Borderlands?

*shrugs*

Makes up for Rage not coming to Linux I guess.

GOG DRM Free Summer Sale Is Now On

They also gave me SimCity 2000. Not on Linux of course, but then it was free.

Desura owner Bad JuJu Games files for bankruptcy
9 Jun 2015 at 2:51 pm UTC

I just grabbed both Postal games from GOG.com to replace my Desura copies. I am in direct contact with the developer, so I allowed myself to take advantage of the sale even though they technically do not have Linux versions up there yet. Incidentally, expect very good news on that front very soon.

Frictional for whatever reason do not have the Linux version of the Penumbra Collection up on GOG.com yet despite selling it for both Windows and Mac, but they do sell the Linux version from the Humble Store:
https://www.humblebundle.com/store/p/penumbra_collection_storefront [External Link]

EDIT: Upon further inspection, the Penumbra Collection is just a Steam key on the Humble Store. I am going to have bug Frictional about getting DRM Free copies of the Linux version more easily available.

Quoting: g4939566Great news, desurium client was bad anyway.
I really do not see how anyone could celebrate this. I could understand someone being indifferent about Desura's closure, but I do not see how anyone would celebrate the fact that developers and gamers are now being inconvenienced, or state that is a good thing that lots and lots of people have now lost their jobs.

Quoting: TheBardDoes anyone heard about an automated Desura backup tool?
I have heard these get mentioned, but I have no idea how well they work:

Quoting: alexgolI don't think Linux has anything to do with it. Both stores are multiplatform.
I was not meaning to imply that GOG.com coming onto Linux led to the bankruptcy, but rather state that it did seriously undermine its position among Linux users. I have reworded the sentence to make that clearer.

New Linux Gaming Survey For June
1 Jun 2015 at 11:36 pm UTC

I had to say yes to the console question, but only because of the Sega Genesis we got at a thrift store in 2008. To be fair though, it has seen some use over the past few months.

All of my Linux purchases in May were GOG.com DOSBox wrappers. :|
