Minetest, the free and open source voxel game engine has a big new release out

Quoting: GuestHopefully it's feature-rich enough to at least be capable of being a vanilla Minecraft replacement. The core devs might not want to base their versioning around that but that's what most gamers are going to come there for, to see Minetest be at least capable of what vanilla Minecraft is.
The Mineclone game/mod Swiftpaw mentions is tantalizingly close to being good enough. If it's the one I'm thinking of, the redstone implementation is laggy (unfortunately I suspect that's inherent to the way Minetest does mods), and friendly mobs spawn at random - rather than there being large areas of pigs, sheep, horses etc., they're all mixed together - but at times, when I tried it a few months ago, I almost forgot I wasn't playing the real thing.

Quoting: subWhy not Dirt Rally 2.0?

Is Codemasters against a simultaneous Linux release?
I get the feeling they're not actively against it; they're just not that bothered. I'll be surprised if Feral don't get around to it eventually, though.

But I agree that it doesn't exactly help promote Linux as a gaming platform.

DXVK, the project for D3D11 and D3D10 over Vulkan hits the big 1.0

I was just wondering over the weekend when it might hit 1.0. At least it didn't take as long as Wine itself. :)

A reminder about Steam's platform-specific wishlist feature you should be using

This just reminds me what a mess the Steam client's UI is: two menu bars, and two menu items relating to your account. It's a wonder anyone can ever find anything.

OpenMW progresses towards supporting Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout plus shadows are back

Quoting: DuncThat's... ambitious. But then so was reverse-engineering Morrowind in the first place. Good luck to them. I just hope it doesn't distract from the main goal.
What main goal? Pretty sure they've pretty much nailed Morrowind. Fully playable, shadows are back... not sure what's left! It's been a while since I looked at their roadmap though.
Fair point.

What have you been playing recently and what do you think of it?

Quoting: DuncI played TW1 after TW2, and never actually completed TW2 on the PC (I got almost to the end and thought, “Yeah, I remember what happens now. That'll do.”), so I don't have a proper “history” of saves.
TW3 works around that, by asking your what choices you made in the past (it's built into the story). If you provide a save, that part is skipped.
Yes, I noticed that. But it would be nice to have a complete run. I'll probably get round to it someday...

Still on The Witcher 3. Every day for six weeks and counting. Over 100 hours in, I still haven't finished the main story and I've barely touched the DLC. What an incredible... achievement, really, to create such a work. In TW2, I was impressed by the second chapter of its three-part setup being completely different depending on whether you sided with Roche or Iorveth, but it was very obvious where the choice was made, and how the threads were brought back together for the third chapter. I'm sure that kind of thing is happening in TW3, but it occurs so much more smoothly and naturally in the plot that it's quite hard to tell where and how.

I knew it was good, but I didn't expect to be so amazed.

Quoting: WorMzyI'm continuing on with my Proton-enabled play through of Fallout: New Vegas, that's going well, not so many crashes these days. \o/ (water still acts weird though)
I was playing that a lot before Christmas without any problems, but I tried starting it the other day and it wouldn't run. Don't know what's going on. Not that it's bothering me much right now... :)

Quoting: einherjarOtherwise I had lots of fun with TW1 and will play all three titles to enjoy the whole story.
I should have thought of that before I bought TW3. I played TW1 after TW2, and never actually completed TW2 on the PC (I got almost to the end and thought, “Yeah, I remember what happens now. That'll do.”), so I don't have a proper “history” of saves.
