A new Steam Client Beta is out with reduced CPU use, DPI fixes and more

Do you still have to disable the Steam overlay because it just keeps freezing the game (if you are lucky and it doesn't freeze the entire system)?
Especially when using its browser (which is the only thing I use it for, easier than alt-tabbing).

City-building strategy game 'Banished' is no longer having a Linux port

Well, it really makes sense to not port a game after so much time.
I mean, really, what for?

Just hope the dev's next game will feature linux earlier.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPNot really... I once (like... 15-20 years ago) had a Latin class. Yeah, the ancient one, which for some reason is still being taught in German schools - what a waste. Anyway, I always sucked at it and so once I mistranslated the text "the cruel cyclops had sheep" as "the cyclops had cruel sheep" - hey, I was like 12 or so, I was allowed to be stupid.
That "cruel sheep" didn't get out of my head so I started drawing comics with sheep, and eventually that evolved to my nick which I have had since then.
They still teach it at school and high-school in Romania , but it's like one class total.
I was pretty terrible at it despite my native language being latin based. :P
So , should i start googling for german webcomics titled "grausames Schaf" ?
You could, but that was way before stuff like Facebook was a thing. I guess I could have scanned them and uploaded them on Geocities... or MySpace. But I didn't ;)

Tell us the whole story. Seems to be a funny one.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPThat sounds sort of odd coming from your handle and avatar. Are you some kind of wool-only chauvinist?
Sheep are majestic and wise beings and obviously above any furry-related material.
The avatar is actually from Temple Of Elemental Evil, which is D&D, so mostly just fantasy (with a tiny bit of furry stuff here and there).
I actually love REAL animals, except maybe cats, as they have vile personalities and I die from being unable to breathe if they are close.

But if everything in a setting is made up of animals in human clothing, there is just no way I can take it seriously. It is just wrong. I also hate people who dress up their animals in people's clothing. A dog is a dog FFS and should be naked (except if very cold and it's not a "winter compatible" dog) not a doll to play with! Man, that gets me angry just thinking about it. Urge to hand out backhand slaps increases.

As to my nick... oh boy, that goes waaaay back :D

I'm really not a fan of all that furry stuff, but the game does sound interesting.
Can't hurt to keep an eye on it!

Dominions 5 announced with Day-1 Linux support

Quoting: TheSHEEEPI really like playing Dominions.
It would just be nice if they could implement an actual SP with some basic AI diplomacy so that it can serve for a bit more than just random testing...
What? No single player? Well there goes my interest.
Well, technically, there is single player. And it IS fun for a while.
The problem is that you cannot reason with the AI, all the AI players seem to have some agenda but it is rather random.
At least it was like that in Dom3-4, so I doubt they implemented that here (otherwise, they would have announced that probably).

Real Dominions lives from the interaction with the people you play with. Making alliances, non-aggression pacts, trading, etc. And awaiting your email turn to see if everyone actually kept their deals (usually, trade agreements are binding, other diplomacy is not). It can take as much time writing PMs on a forum with other people as you spend in the game - at least occasionally.
And unfortunately, single player does not let you train for that in the least, as there is no interaction with the AI. You just got a message if an AI declared war on you, that's it...

I know the developers are doing that only part-time, but I don't understand why they don't implement at least rudimentary AI diplomacy.

I also like the changes they announced, especially the sped up combat. It helps with late game turns taking just too long to do (who has that much time anymore?).

Unsung Story, a game previously funded by Kickstarter has started again under a new developer

With such a troubled development, the game will be great!

Right?

Because all games with a troubled development turn out to be all the better for it...

Some thoughts on Castle Story, the voxel-based strategy game

Quoting: Nor MantisThis is the only game I have ever refunded. This was last month, it didn't run on arch at all.
That's usually more of an Arch problem, really.
I mean, what lucky game DOES run there...
It is a very bad idea to run Arch and expect stuff to actually work there.
