YoYo Games expand their Linux support in GameMaker Studio 2 to the Raspberry Pi
21 Dec 2020 at 5:06 pm UTC

I've had gamepad problems with GameMaker Studio 2 games. I actually had to refund Chronicon because for the life of me I couldn't get it to work. I hope things will get better now.

Civilization VI - New Frontier Pass launches without Linux and macOS
22 May 2020 at 2:34 pm UTC

Some time ago I tried contacting Aspyr Media's customer support about Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth not working on my computer. I never got an answer. I'm not sure if they even received my message. Their customer support site was being really buggy and I couldn't login to the account created during making the customer support request.

When customer support doesn't work, who am I supposed to contact then? :P

I hope they'll get better at this stuff eventually.

Dying Light gets a massive update with a 'Story Mode' plus a free weekend

The Linux version seems to actually work for me now. 👍️

I didn't enjoy Dead Island much, but people have said Dying Light is way better so I'm hoping I'll agree with that opinion after playing it this weekend.

Some thoughts on Linux gaming in 2019, an end of year review

In absence of actual Linux versions of online multiplayer games, it would be great to see EAC and other anti-cheat systems work on Steam Play / Proton / WINE in 2020.

Seems like Feral Interactive may have a few surprises for Linux in 2020
12 Dec 2019 at 2:55 pm UTC

The lack of new or still supported online FPS games is the biggest problem for me, especially since the disappointing cancellation of Insurgency: Sandstorm and the dropping of support for Natural Selection 2 (although the latter does work decently on Steam Play so far). Of course the problem is that online FPS games tend to receive frequent updates, so Feral Interactive would need to be hired for long-term porting of those. Not to mention potential problems with porting anti-cheat systems.

Darwin Project no longer works in Steam Play, due to Easy Anti-Cheat

EAC and BattlEye both support Linux and there's Linux games using them, so perhaps they can eventually do something about it directly in collaboration with Valve somehow.
Huh, I actually thought they didn't support Linux since they don't work with Steam Play / Proton (and I assume WINE) at all. Anyway, it would be freaking great to see that happen. There are so many Windows games I would want to play on Linux that are blocked by those anticheat solutions.

Indie FPS 'Ballistic Overkill' updated with a rework of TDM to finally fix base-camping, also Steam Workshop support
31 Jan 2018 at 6:29 pm UTC

I'm not too fond of how the reworked TDM sounds. It's the same as in some other multiplayer FPS games. In those the problem then becomes having a "spawn roulette", where you either respawn on the back of an enemy or someone by chance rushes into your spawn point before you have time to get your bearings. With fixed spawn areas you have a general idea of where you can expect enemies to come from. Maybe they should remove the ability to go back to the spawn area once you exit it to reduce its camping aspect.

But I'll give this the benefit of the doubt... Maybe the map size to player amount ratio is good enough for these semi-random spawn points to work.

Easy Red, a new WWII FPS has released a Linux version

Quoting: RTherenI wouldn't recommend it right now.
The biggest issue I had is that once you die/win, the cursor disappears, until you restart the whole game.

It's incredibly annoying
Quoting: HadBabitsAlready refunded: As commented above, the mouse cursor will disappear after you get in game. That means you can't even use the inventory unless you blindly 'feel around', and if you die you're gonna have to quit the game, really poor show on the dev's part.
A recent patch note says that a mouse issue on Linux has been fixed. Maybe it was this?

Natural Selection 2 updated with an improved spectator system, new tutorial and 64bit is near

I've played it occasionally since release. It's got its good and bad sides. I still think the Quake 2 modification called Gloom was better. :)

I do have to admire how this game keeps getting updated so many years after its release. From what I've understood the control of the updates has been given over to a group of volunteers which was a very smart move from the development team.
Quoting: LakortaThe players on the servers I'm on usually vote to shuffle the teams according to hive performance, which usually results in somewhat balanced teams (of course it heavily depends on the commander and team communication whether you win or lose).
Unfortunately this also makes the game not easily played with a friend or a small group of friends. I cannot recommend this game for that.

Awesome looking fighting game 'Blade Symphony' looks like it's coming to Linux

Quoting: lucifertdarkRight now (as I type this) there are 4 players in game, going Free to Play might change that but it's pretty much dead in the water right now.
Yeah, unfortunately so. It died off quite quickly after launch which is a shame because it's quite a unique versus fighting game. Also surprisingly intuitive for me. I usually suck at versus fighting games. :D
