Noclip have done an interesting documentary on how GOG came to be

Quoting: Sputnik_tr_02I think main reason for lack of Linux interest stems from their parent company CDPR and the events that happened after Witcher 2 port. They are basically Anti Linux at the moment.
There are several errors in all of this:
  • CDPR is not GOG's parent company. They are both parts of CDProjekt but independent from each other and CDPR is in no position to tell GOG what it should and should not do;

  • All of this "Linux Haters" cool story comes from a single person -- Peter Mulholland AKA "Jaycee" (or something like this), who is, as you said, "Virtual Programming" ex-employee and who has been spreading all of this non-stop on different news resources including this site (but adds this is just his own views, not VP or CDPR's policy);

  • All of the "not in a foreseeable future" on the GOG's part was prior to CDPR's Linux fiasco.

I think, neither "Witcher II" in particular nor CDPR (or Virtual Programming) has nothing to do with GOG's "Zero Effort" policy. GOG added Linux versions of games only under pressure from Steam™ (no so) shortly after Valve opened its store for Linux. Have Valve not done that, we would not see any Linux support from GOG at all.
Quoting: Sputnik_tr_02It is really sad but lets hope everyone learns their lessons about being nice to each other.
If there is any lesson to learn it is that one should not fall victim to Stockholm Syndrome and begin praising her/his offender for not being too mean.

Perhaps what you say is true and there is a completely different reason for zero effort on GOG's part, you clearly have more insight about the matter than i do. However, allow me to disagree about one thing; how is it being nice when responding to a bad game port is an example to Stockholm Syndrome? That was what i meant in the last sentence. English is not my native language so some things may get lost in the translation. That being said, Witcher 2 debacle may not have any effect on GOG's decisions like you said but i believe it definitely plays a part in why we won't be getting any CDPR games on Linux. At least that is how it seems when i look the matter.

Quoting: PhlebiacThat hardly seems fair, considering they go to the effort of packaging games with MojoSetup.
Even MojoSetup was not developed by them but by Ryan C. Gordon AKA "Icculus".
Needless to say, they are pathetic even at this. Constantly they delay Linux versions of games for inexplicable reasons (when reached, developers usually say they mailed Linux version to GOG long ago but have not got any response since then) or sometimes even allow developers to outright skip Linux updates (hello, "Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun", "Sudden Strike 4" and "This War of Mine"! ).

Quoting: PhlebiacI can say that a small level of animosity towards GOG is justified, as they declined to support Linux at all multiple times before finally doing so, well after Valve did so with Steam.
What was in the past was in the past. Water under the bridge. Let's speak about current matters.

Quoting: PhlebiacBut "zero-effort" is a bit of a slap in the face to the guy who is slaving away over there, testing and packaging on and for Linux.
Over the years GOG employees have said multiple times GOG has very limited resources ant their top brass thinks these resources should be spent elsewhere (like the site redesign, including recent one with another GOG Galaxy advertisement at the footer or "Library" ). The real "slap in the face" to all Linux users is the "In Progress" plaque on the wishlist entry for Galaxy on Linux sitting there for (how many? three?) years when we all know (and have been told so) it is not in the works. Not now, not "in the foreseeable future", as GOG likes to put it.

But most importantly, this news has absolutely nothing to do with Linux! At all!

I think main reason for lack of Linux interest stems from their parent company CDPR and the events that happened after Witcher 2 port. They are basically Anti Linux at the moment.

There is an interview on Boiling Steam with Peter Mulholland (Ex Virtual Programming Dev) that explains some of the reasons behind that. When he is asked about possibility of Cyperpunk 2077 port he says this:

"Personally, I think no. The Linux bridges have been burnt for CDPR. I could be wrong, but I really can’t see it happening."

It is really sad but lets hope everyone learns their lessons about being nice to each other.

Beam Team Games have now actually announced Stranded Deep for Linux, currently experimental

Just downloaded the game. I needed to add this command to launch options to get the game working. ( Thanks to Xpander )

__GL_GlslUseCollapsedArrays=0 %command%

Game works fine so far, no visual glitches or anything. Loading takes a long time though and mouse feels awkward in the opening scene. Performance is not very good on my system, i hope it gets better.

NVIDIA pushed out two new Linux drivers recently with 396.45 and 390.77

According to DXVK wiki 396.45 is the recommended driver.

DXVK for Direct3D 11 over Vulkan in Wine has a new 0.60 release

Quoting: TheSHEEEPYou should just be able to run an .exe installer, for example, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
Yes it would be very user friendly but it also brings some new problems; (Windows viruses). If everything is automated some harmful software designed for windows will surely take advantage of that. Perhaps users should be warned if that is the case for a distro.

Oof... the one currently in the packages is 390.48.
Trying to install more recent drivers from NVidias website has always resulted in completely messing up the graphics drivers - aka nothing works anymore until you repair the X configuration files, etc. Extremely bothersome, so I've stopped using anything that's not in the official packages.
I am using this ppa, never had issues with it on my system, you may want to try.

Feral Interactive have no plans to put their Linux ports on GOG

Quoting: GuestI don't care anymore for GOG, bought way too many games there in the hope that there will be a Linux client. But so far I cannot see that GOG is in any way committed to Linux. Valve and Feral continue to invest in Linux and I'm quite happy to support both companies.
Yes my thoughts exactly. Both Valve and Feral do more than just selling Linux games; they contribute to the open source drivers and Vulkan api and other cross platform solutions, but somehow they are the bad guys just because they use DRM and GOG is the good guy despite doing nothing but sell some games. I would also prefer DRM free where it is available but I do not live in Europe or USA and that makes GOG not viable because they do not support my local currency and because of that games on GOG are 3-4 times more expensive than on Steam. That would be another factor for some developers not putting their games on GOG because of user base being smaller.

Khronos are doing another Vulkan technical event in the UK this month
9 May 2018 at 1:40 pm UTC

Quoting: TheRiddickI have been using a Fallout 4 patch to wine staging 3.7 so not sure if that is still needed.

It worked on staging 3.5 also, as for sound I have xact installed and enabled EAX in the winecfg (I do have a creative card afterall). There are MANY tricks you can do to get sound working, I'm just using pulseaudio atm.

Thanks, i'll try. I've been playing the game with the "fallout4-2.21-x86_64" from lutris runners. It's not as good as DXVK but still playable.

Quoting: TheRiddickBeen having allot of fun with DXVK, works surprisingly well, I was able to get 50-60+ fps out of high++ settings with SkyrimSE/Fallout4/Witcher3 at 4k on my 1080ti (tweaking required). Quite surprised, I thought it be another 10 years before we saw 60fps at 4k for these games under wine!

Hi how did you set up Fallout4? I can't get it to work with DXVK+xact; if i use DXVK only, game works and performs really well but sound is broken, i can only hear gun sounds. If i use xact overrides only, sound works but as you can guess performance is terrible. If i enable both DXVK and xact overrides, game just crashes on start. I have tried with different wine and staging versions (3.5,3.6,3.7 etc) Any ideas?
