Quoting: mphuZI recommend you to sober up, before discussing things further. You don't seem to be yourself. And if it's you normal, ban would probably be proper.Quoting: ShmerlValve backed Mesa instead of making their own blob.Don't compare your ass to your finger.

Quoting: mphuZSpit out. Why push open standards into everything where it's not necessary?Back at you, why not use them? Valve backed Mesa instead of making their own blob. So why can't they back Monado too?

DRM proponents attempt to whitewash it, and feed the public with that trash as something normal. But it shouldn't be acceptable.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPThat may be a reason to you not to use DRM in your hypothetical project, but ethics in the end matter only as long as nothing more important is at stake, e.g. money. There is no end to it then. Unethical money can mean anything, from protection racket to something even more sinister. We aren't even talking abut unethical "business practices". We are talking about what's presented as something that should be acceptable, while in reality it does fall in the above unethical category.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPYou're also throwing all kinds of DRM in the same pot.The kind doesn't make a difference. Their unethical premise is the same for all of them.

Quoting: EikeYou either addressed the wrong person or you made up a totally wrong image of my opinion (which often happens when people got a pure black and white thinking and guess from being opposed at an aspect of something that the other person got a totally different opinion on everything of the topic). If the latter is true, take two steps back and read again what I wrote about and especially what I didn't write about.I did, and it sounded like you were trying to justify the premise behind DRM. May be I misunderstood it, then I'm sorry for confusion. In my opinion DRM has no justification, it's simply unethical.

Quoting: KohlyKohlTheir hardware and drivers are not that great in my experience. The last AMD graphics card I bought was used for a month and then replaced with nVidia again. Maybe in a few years I'll look at them again but for now I'm sticking with nVidia under Linux.I have AMD laptop for work (Zen+ generation) running Linux. It works out of the box, unlike horrors that plague Nvidia based ones.

Good development. Are they also going to start using Monado instead of SteamVR?

Well, picking Nvidia for graphics is a major no go for a Linux laptop. Pretty bad move on their part.
Let them make a proper AMD laptop.

Quoting: scaineLet's say that again - it ACTIVELY creates the behaviour that DRM is trying to prevent. You couldn't make it up...Yep, that's well known. DRM only increases piracy causing only more lost sales to those who use it. DRM itself also encourages some to crack it for sport.

@Eike, also, if you want a good exposition on why overreaching preemptive policing is bad, I recommend reading Watchbird [External Link].
Quoting: EikeYou complained that "DRM doesn't trust you and treats you as a potential criminal apriory." - and that's what you're doing with random foreign people as well, and for a reason. There's bad people out there.I explained the difference. DRM is doing it in your private digital space, preemptively. That's unacceptable. I.e. imagine police placing surveillance cameras in yours and everyone's home "just in case", because someone might be a criminal. You get the idea why that's wrong. Exactly the same thing is wrong with DRM.
Quoting: EikeSo, you cannot demand trust from companies (or other foreign people).I can totally demand them to get lost with trying to preemptively police me in my private digital space.
