Got it. I thought the comment was about higher than normal price. Setting release price for unfinished game is indeed wrong but as I said, it's caused by their retail distributors for consoles, so it has nothing to do with "AAA" like comments above. I'd say ideally they should stay away from physical distribution, but apparently it's still very dominant in console market.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceThe price has almost doubled and is still early access. It cost just a few dollars less than a AAA game at full price. I could understand if it was fully released but it's not. I'm still interested in it but there's not enough drugs in the world I could be on that would make me think an Early Access game is worth full AAA price.
I suppose don't buy it then until release? It's not like we need it anyway - Linux version is not planned for in-development releases. And the currently raised price was caused by their deal with physical retail who demanded that. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense.

Quoting: BeamboomOh come on, that's like saying Bioshock would be "just another shooter".
I don't wanna seem like a dismissive asshole, but Bioshock was marketed at some point as a spiritual successor to System Shock 2. The setting is cool, sure, but compare it to SS2, and it really is just another shooter.
Authors said several times, that it's incorrect to compare this game to Bioshock, it's quite different and expecting it to be new Bioshock is probably a bad idea. However it has dystopian inspirations, so there are some similarities.

Quoting: SolitaryToo bad this kickstarted indie title became another "AAA" game after deal with Gearbox, now with pre-order bonuses, season passes and hiked up price.
How is their price hiked exactly? Their previous price was in-development one, so naturally release price will be higher (since they released their last in development version before the final release if I understand correctly). If you didn't expect the higher price in the end, you just had incorrect expectations. If you just consider their final price to be unfairly high - that's a different matter, and more a matter of opinion already.

For the reference, you can have backed the game during crowdfunding to get the best price for it.

Quoting: wvstolzing(** slightly more on topic -- I think it's pretty amusing that just as there are people who'd like to leave windows, but cannot because of games, there are people who'd be happy to switch from Linux to a BSD, but they cannot, because of, well, games.)
Resources behind Linux are way larger, and in stuff like graphics stack Linux is clearly leading. That's why FreeBSD are basically copying DRM/KMS over from Linux.

Rather than classic ones though, I'm personally more interested in some FOSS operating systems emerging, that use modern approaches to kernel design. Redox [External Link] looks quite interesting (it's using Rust rather than C for its core components).

I still have an old UltraSPARC IIIi Sun Blade 1500 desktop with OpenSolaris. Looks like Oracle is going to kill Solaris off anyway, so it's good that illumos is still alive.

Growth of Chromebooks should be good for Linux gaming, since it's possible to run regular Linux games on ChromeOS (from chroot for instance), but it requires some extra steps. Google should just use the opportunity, and make the process easier and out of the box comfortable.

Looks like they are testing with Mesa after all (or will be testing?). See here [External Link].

I'm still kind of surprised that if they had issues with it, why didn't they file any bugs?
