Linux Mint 22.2 Beta available for the next long-term supported release

Mint does not in any way create automatic timeshift snapshots out of the box.
You are greeted with a welcome screen to set up some basic things, among them to configure timeshift the way it suits you best.
If you do not pay attention or you're smashing buttons without reading what they do, it is not Mint's fault.

Ubuntu 24.10 gets a new Snap feature to handle prompting for app permissions
14 Sep 2024 at 8:23 pm UTC

It's late for Canonical, too late I'm afraid. They should have done that a long time ago, let's say back when they replaced native Chromium with snap in Ubuntu 20.04. Snaps for desktop users without graphical tools of configuration, without a transparent way of handling updates, permissions and background processes has been kind of disastrous for Canonical's reputation not to say anything about offering 1:1 parity with native packages. They have lost a good deal of good faith in Linux community. They did something similar again with new apparmor rules and profiles in latest LTS. Flatpak on the other hand has taken off without anyone forcing it into our computers.
