Taking my first steps into Deep Rock Galactic. Plays great on Linux via Proton!

What have you been playing recently and what are your thoughts?

Ark: Survival Evolved. The Linux version is junk, but under Proton it's fantastic!

Talking point: What are you playing this weekend?

Enjoying a bit of ARK: Survival Evolved via Steam Play. Looks and plays much like it does on Windows, and much better than the native Linux version. I like it!

Steam Play versus Linux Version, a little performance comparison and more thoughts

Interesting stuff! I'm anxious to hear of others that have tried Ark: Survival Evolved. Running the Linux version I typically get 45+ fps with high settings, but to my surprise under Steam Play it creaks along at 12-17 fps. (and that's with the settings turned down to low)

Another Steam Client Beta is out, adds the ability to force Steam Play

Great news! There are definitely some horribly ported games (ARK: Survival Evolved) that could benefit from this. Haven't been able to get the Windows version of ARK to load yet, but I hope to get it sorted.

What a crock. Microsoft, like Google, still think they can fool us into believing they have our best interests at heart.

Was playing the Windows version of The Norwood Suite earlier today on my Ubuntu machine. Works perfectly via Proton!

Some thoughts on Valve’s new Steam Play feature and what it means for Linux gaming
26 August 2018 at 2:59 am UTC

I think the significance of Steam Play will ultimately exceed even the initial expectations. There are countless gamers that cling to Microsoft solely to play Windows-only titles, and Steam Play makes a permanent switch to Linux a much more reasonable proposition. My personal experience is that the majority of Windows games work fine, not only the current "white listed" titles. Among those that work for me with no drama whatsoever are Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Dino D-Day, DOOM, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Flatout, KHOLAT, Meow Motors, The Norwood Suite, Project Cars, Raft, Sonic & All-Stars Racing, and Wreckfest. (your mileage may vary) The few that wouldn't cooperate for me:, Fallout 4, FAR: Lone Sails, Microsoft Flight Simulator X, and Totally Accurate Battlegrounds. I've no doubt that the percentage of Windows games that work under Linux is going to grow... it's a great time to be a Linux gamer!
