Indie devs have begun adding a no generative AI stamp to their store pages

I don't really keep up on all the AI stuff since it's not something that interests me all that much, but...
Which is to say, it seems like instead of a ‘No GenAI’ label, a much better one would be a symbol that indicates that no unethical AI/LLM was used. Something akin to the little bunny rabbit symbol used on products to indicate there was no animal testing.
Of course, now that I think about it, I've never checked to see if that bunny symbol actually has any weight behind it or if it's self-claimed.
Generative AI is a technology that can create pictures, movies, audio (music or voice action) and writing using artificial intelligence. The issue is that these generative technologies are trained on existing works by human artists who have not given their permission, or been compensated, for their work being utilised. Essentially their work has been stolen.Didn't Adobe train their AI model entirely on things they had permission for and compensate the artists? If there is even a single ethically sourced AI/LLM model, it would make the reasoning behind this seal feel... dirty. For it to have any weight, at least IMO, you'd need a certifying organization behind it that audited AI/LLM tools for unethical practices. Otherwise, you are basically calling out an entire tool chain for the bad actions of a few that aren't representative of the whole. Best similarity I can think of would be like if you slapped a ‘No human labor’ label on chocolate... because children are humans and the chocolate industry is rife with child labor, thereby implying that all human labor is unethical by proxy of some human labor being unethical.

Amazon's previous VP of Prime Gaming said they "tried everything" to disrupt Steam

As someone who's played steam for over a decade and who's had prime since year one... PrimeGaming never even got to early years steam in terms of features and usability... I in fact, didn't even realize until this article that they even were trying to compete with steam... I would have never guessed... I honestly though they were just trying to do a silly extra perk, because that's all it's felt like.
Kero Quest 64 looks like a classic Nintendo 64 / PS1 game and it's coming to Linux / Steam Deck

That main character design is as cringy and off putting as all get out for me.
I'll go ahead and wishlist it with the hope a mod to replace the main character comes out at some point. Since classic 3D collectathons are my all time favorite genre.

Not a fan of how gun centered it is, but I'm also not a fan of how Nintendo has handled pokemon so another super popular similar game sounds like what the market needs to either give Nintendo a kick to make something good, or inspire other studios to pick up their slack and make something better.
Nintendo needs to realize that their core fans that grew up with their games are 30-50 now and releasing things that make a modern day 10yo yawn and go play more Minecraft isn't going to cut it in the long term. Nostalgia can only carry something so long.

Denuvo kills interest. I was hyped for the Megaman battle network remake, until I learned it had Denuvo... Seriously an offline portable game I planned to stick on a steam deck that gets internet like 2-3 times a year... recipe for disaster. Better off just boycotting the remake and playing emulated copies of my old games.

Iconoclasts is a game I want to enjoy, but never have been able to. The level design is incompatible with my brain. I've played and enjoyed a lot of indie metroidvania, RPG-ish platforms and usually have a great time even on kind of iffy ones, but for some reason Iconoclasts frustrates and confuses me in just the wrong ways. Love the art style though, not a huge fan of the story.
Both my wife and nephew have had major issues in the same locations as I did and gave up trying to play in about the same locations as well despite both otherwise also liking metroidvania games.
Still don't regret buying the game at full price though. It's a great indie effort, and a lot of people obviously really like it.

Humble Choice for July 2023 has The Outer Worlds, TemTem, Yakuza 4 Remastered

I am skipping this month out of protest and I encourage other people do as well. Because of TemTem; micro transactions in a paid game is not okay and getting this bundle means giving money to them and supporting that concept as even if you don't care about TemTem, buying the bundle means you are giving money to them.

"highly cash-flow generative business"
I read this as: We're going to make tons of cheap poorly made f2p cash grab games.

Quoting: CalinouInteresting project. Since I had my ISO premade from the time I played Jak 1 on the PCSX2 emulator a few years back it was easy to setup too. Overall it seems to run way better than it did emulated.Of the old classics Jak and Dexter needs a PC port / remaster too. :DThis already exists for Jak 1 as https://opengoal.dev/ [External Link]. Support for Jak 2 is currently being developed.
