Of course it's going to be out. After Windows users got to play it for free over the Steam free weekend that just passed...
Anyway, I played it under Windows which I installed recently (giving me a quad-boot setup now - Debian with amdgpu+Mesa, Ubuntu+fglrx, Ubuntu+amdgpu-pro, Windows). I don't usually run Windows at all, but recently re-added it for a small number of games I really want to play that won't work with Wine for the foreseeable future due to DX11 and copy protection issues. I don't plan on making a habit of it.
Anyway, here are my thoughts:

If the game runs anything like the Windows version, this will be a bad game. Note that the issues I had were generally not performance-related. If you like sandbox games, play Shadow of Mordor first before picking this one up.

I've got the big screen, surround sound, controllers, drinks, etc. right at my desk. I even have a bean bag I can switch to if I feel the desire, although I much prefer my chair when doing any serious gaming.

Quoting: skinnyrafI have a PC for, well, general computing, sitting at my desk with a proper office chair. The problem is, playing games at that PC is too much like working: a desk, a chair, a keyboard and a mouse. So I have a Steam Machine in my living room, hooked up to an overhead projector. A large screen, a proper surround sound system, a couch, a controller and a bottle of beer on a coffee table.Hmm... sounds like you just need a better PC. :P

Quoting: wolfyrionpfft... just install a rolling release distro...I used to be a massive fan of Gentoo. Even ran GentooX on the original Xbox back in the day. These days I just run Debian and have started to use GuixSD, although I am thinking of toying with Parabola also since I backed the EOMA68.
I cant imagine myself working with a non rolling release distro. Once you experienced it you will never go back to ubuntu like distros...

Perhaps Valve is just waiting on AMD to get their free software drivers finished. Once that's done, issues with DKMS and proprietary drivers will be a thing of the past.
AMDGPU+Mesa is nearly there already, both in terms of performance, stability and OpenGL support. Not sure about Vulkan... AMD promised a free software release but no specifics. Also no mention of Crossfire support for OpenGL games. Aside from that, AMD drivers will provide a great out-of-the-box experience with nothing more than a proprietary firmware blob (which hopefully AMD will find a solution for too, eventually). Should make SteamOS much more reliable.

If it's running under CrossOver, then I expect they paid CodeWeavers for the port. CodeWeavers are the biggest Wine contributors, so are a company we should support. Compare that to eON wrappers and indirectx wrappers, which don't contribute anything back to free software.

Edit: I should also point out that while I don't generally use CrossOver, I do keep an active subscription to show my support for Wine development.

Quoting: The Thoughtsmith've managed to upgrade to 1.9.16. However I can't seem to interact with any Wine-related things that worked before (I.E, wineboot, winecfg) and menu shortcuts don't work any more. Rather, I believe I've done something wrong in manually installing 1.9.16, related to 32-bit vs. 64-bit.Building Wine can be a bit involved (I wrote a script [External Link] I use to automate it all, which still requires some time to take care of creating the appropriate schroot environment), but there's plenty of information on the Wine wiki if you are prepared to spend the time. However you might find it easier to use PlayOnLinux [External Link], which includes a bunch of Wine versions you can download and use from within the application.
Edit: I should also point out that while I don't generally use CrossOver, I do keep an active subscription to show my support for Wine development.

I don't have the game personally (as it's not something that looks interesting to me), but I use Wine a lot.
