Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night delayed again, this time until 2019

Hoping for the best, though I don't know how I feel about the art style yet. Seems like 2D would be cheaper and I don't really see what 3D adds to the game; just seems like more things could go wrong.

Even so, as long as the gameplay's good I can't turn down a new (not) Castlevania :)

Valve may be adding support for using compatibility tools for playing games on different operating systems

I always find the WINE paranoia bizarre. Rather than worry about the devs, think of the users. If the process was streamlined, I mean we're talking Steam here, than that would likely bring in a good chunk of users on the fence. More users means we become a more viable market, meaning devs will have to stop treating us as 2nd class consumers, meaning more properly supported, native ports.

Of course, this is Valve we're talking about, so no telling what this really is or when Valve will bother announcing it to us peasants

The Xenko Game Engine recently became free and open source

Sounds like it could become abandon-ware in a year's time, at least to my cynical ear. But if you feel like supporting it, they do have a Patreon [External Link]; currently sitting at $281 a month. It was only set up a few days ago, so who knows? Either way, I don't see anything wrong with giving some attention to a budding open-source community. Though it wouldn't hurt to add information about the current state of their Linux support to the article to avoid confusion :)

Zachtronics' next puzzle game 'EXAPUNKS' will have you writing viruses, announced with Linux support

I hadn't touched a Zachtronics game until Magnum Opus and got really hooked; definitely their most accessible and polished game I've seen. I'm still working my way through Shenzen IO, but DAMN if they don't put my mediocre programming skills to the test XD

GZDOOM based fan game 'Castlevania: Simon's Destiny' has a nice graphical update out

Downloaded, played, and beat :B Never heard of this one, lovely fan project, as I enjoy both Doom and the classic Castlevania games. If you're in the same boat it's well worth killing an hour or so.

I find the idea of trying to apply Castlevania to a 2.5d game really fascinating, so I left some thoughts and criticisms below. Regardless I found the game itself fun for what it was :)

The 3d aspect does not play to Simon's favor, unfortunately. While I am glad that medusa heads don't send you flying, 3d platforming adds a new dimension to the wonky-ness. The physics of 2d Castlevania were very precise (i.e. simple); the axe knights could throw a low axe to jump over or high axe to duck (then the axe returns, but that's not in this game so w/e). Here I mostly dealt with them by popping in and out of cover and spamming my ranged weapon. The only time ducking is feasible is for the medusa heads since they move in a fixed pattern. Maybe they could've fixed this by locking the axis of enemy projectiles, but then you'd need to position them so they're not easily sniped from above or below... tricky.

The skeletons are done well, their bones fly at a predictable arc and they can only throw so far. However, when it comes to your own spec weapons I can only reccomend the boomerang-cross, dagger, and pocket-watch. The axe is really hard to use appropriately, figuring out the arc is strange in first person. It's also so short range it'll be useless in many situations, same goes for the holy water, which may have worked better with a bigger AOE.

Oh, and the whip is... alright. The range can be hard to predict in 3d, but the impact does feel satisfying on enemies you can use it on. It'll be useless against most projectile enemies (save for the skelly) and most bosses, since the whipping slows you down allowing for you to get shot in the face; but this can work in tandem with the watch.

Edit: And I should mention the aesthetics and soundtrack are nice. Breaking all the candles in the castle was appropriately nostalgic :B

NPC AI in Streets of Rogue has gained some new tricks

Great stuff :) I've put a lot of time into this game and I love seeing how the various systems interact. Good to see they know where the magic is :B

Cyberpunk FPS 'Black Ice' had a big patch with massively improved performance

Quoting: TcheyI want to like this game, but it's quite boring too quickly repetitive, with little to do. Exploration is also limited due to otherwise rather nice neon style, as more or less everything looks the same.
Pretty much my thoughts. The neon look is neat, but the burden of distinction is put entirely on the geometry, which isn't varied enough to keep it looking like a box rave. Maybe if they plaster company-specific textures (e.g. company logo, advertisements) across the server buildings or something.

Hand of Fate 2 - Outlands and Outsiders DLC is now out

Hopefully I can pick the main game up by the winter sale. I enjoyed the original, and the sequel looks like an improvement, but I can't get myself to buy it for +$20 right now. Suppose this means I won't be short on content by the time I get it though :)

I do adore this game. Seems like it'd be fun to play with a friend but both my gf and brother responded with "I don't like those weird pixely games you play" XD

The GOG summer sale is now live

Thanks a bunch, Adamhm :) I hadn't played F.E.-- er, Fear in ages. And now I can play with Kb+M, previously only played the console version. I also never got to try the sequel, so my week's been filled out :B

(For anyone interested, I've had success with the Mmod for Fear, for those wanting to crank up the experience :))
