Does anybody know if the sleep function also works in Desktop mode? And, if so, does it work with any application, or only applications started from Steam?

Valve appear to be testing ARM64 and Android support for Steam on Linux

Maybe it's for running Quest games (which run on Android) on (standalone) Deckard (which, I assume, will run on SeamOS). So developers don't have to do any porting when they want to deploy their game to both Quest and Deckard.

Some day I hope to have a gaming laptop running SteamOS. Being able to tune fps, resolution, watt, etc. And having a full desktop.

Would you say that Ubuntu is the best OS if you just want things to work and not tinker, especially for gaming?

With a Nintendo Switch 2 on the way, I hope Valve make a Steam Deck 2

I would prefer "Deckard" (rumored portable VR headset) over a Steam Deck 2.

Quoting: legluondunetSteam has a similar service with Geforce Now, but you do not have access to all your games, it depend on devs authorizations.
Soon we will no more need a gaming console, nor install or tweak them, to play games on Linux, we will just need a good internet connection. And we will no more need to buy expensive graphic card, with Geforce Now you can play on your TV in 4K/60fps/RayTracing if you have a good internet connection.
Before that, we need all these streaming services to stop screwing with Linux giving us a lower resolution.
wich make no sense, i can understand netflix giving us lower resolutions thinking it may be easier to break their DRM and as result this content leaking on pirate websites with max resolutions... (it leak anyway, at least make sense they try to prevent)

but gaming? the resolution dont mater for an interactive exp, pirating the imagen isnt the samething unless you are talking about cutscenes (maybe music as well).
Yeah it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense on why it's done for gaming. I don't get it either, and would be curious to know if any readers know why they're doing it.
I always thought they assume "Android" when someone is using Linux. Thus a portable small screen device, thus a lower resolution. Don't know if this is true though.

Steam Deck a 'stable target for a couple years' so no Steam Deck 2 for a while

I would really like to be able to run SteamOS on a laptop. Would be great to be able to tune image quality, fps, and battery usage like we can on Steam Deck. And the Desktop Mode is really useful on a laptop.

Unpopular opinion:

I think it's too soon for a standalone VR headset for PC games (rumored as Deckard), unless Valve expects developers to specifically target Deckard. But you won't be able to play current gen PC VR games on it.

The Steam Deck has awesome performance, but for portable VR (like the Quest) we need 3664x1920 resolution and at least 72fps. The problem is that the Quest has it's own low spec library. Deckard has to be able to run VR games intended for a (high end) PC (because that is what people have in their Steam library)

That said, I still hope it's Deckard, but I expect the slightly upgraded Steam Deck.
