Alienware's Steam Machine Fully Announced, They Aren't Using SteamOS
10 Jun 2014 at 2:55 pm UTC

Quoting: nattySteamOS simply isn't ready yet. I tried my hardest to install it on my new home built steam machine and I just couldn't do it. And I'm no noob.
Put ubuntu on and steam runs fine.
Don't see why alienware can't stick a linux distro on though.
Because this Steam Box with Linux (not Steam OS) don`t buy a lot of people.
As I remember, Alienware published, that their steam machine will have Steam OS and Windows. So what the problem? They will show us Steam Machine with Steam OS, when Steam OS will be ready.
As for me, I `ll buy PS4 or Steam Machine with Steam controller and Steam OS in early 2015.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Confirmed For Linux & SteamOS

Strange thing. People hope to get on Linux better port, than on Mac.
Nobody don`t want to know about Mac ports. But Linux get port from Metro last ligth of same quality as Mac port. Witcher 2 get equal ports for Mac and Linux.
So if game get bad port on Mac, don`t expect to get good port on Linux because games get Mac os port first.

Steam Hardware Survey For May 2014, Linux Falls Short Of Last Month

Without AAA games on Linux I don`t see reasons for growing of number Linux gamers. Not huge number of bad indie, but 20-30 powerful AAA games and some strong indie, like ARMA 3 and Red Orcherstra 2.
I think, autumn 2014 and 2015 will change position of linux in the whole gaming.
Civ V and Civ Beyond Earth, Gauntlet, Killing Floor 2, XCOM EU, project CARS, Rome 2 Total war, CS GO, Metro Redux and some more games can give huge acceleration for Linux gaming. Without them - Linux is OS for geeks.

Hm. Technical director for Aspyr Media has interest in Steam OS. Steam db tell as about signs of Linux support of Civilization V. Civilization V was ported on Mac OS X by Aspyr Media.
So as I understand, we have another Mac developer, that starts to make Linux ports.

Interzeroid Interzeroid (Me) - So, you work with linux now too. It`s very good news. Thank you for your work. P.S. I hope, I`ll see your others ports on Linux.
Feral Interactive - Thank you, we're very much looking forward to being a part of the Linux community. :)
P.S. I like them. I liked them before, because my friends on Mac can play coop with me. Now I like them even more.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown for Linux Officially Announced

I knew, that Feral would work with Linux. And as I see, other people really don`t understand, what does it means. Feral Interactive ports games on Mac OS X and they know Open GL. So, It means (if everything will be okay), that we can do other ports on Linux, that they have already done for Mac OS or wiill do in the future. Hitman: Absolution, F1 2013, Shogun 2, Tomb Raider and others.

Steam Hardware Survey For April 2014, Linux Rises From The Ashes

Quoting: oldrocker99I have a dual-boot desktop, and kept Windows 7 strictly for the games; I like Bioshock Inifnite and X-COM:Enemy Unknown and a few others, but...

Lately Windows 7 has a frozen mouse pointer (fixed by Safe Mode, until I rebooted, then frozen again), and screw it! All the games I have been playing for the last few month are Steam for Linux games (I do use Steam with Wine to play Oblivion and Skyrim, and they play quite nicely, thank you), and sooner or later, I'm going to deepsix that miserable excuse for an OS ("But it has Office!";)and go 100% GNU/Linux again.

There are very few games out there that cannot be ported to Linux; God knows we already have a ton of FPS games, both OSS and commercial, and there's no reason that Battlefield, GTA, etc., etc cannot be ported, except for developer laziness.
Man, developers and publishers want money. And if EA will choose what to do: to port Battlefield 4 on Linux and sell 200 000 or 300 000 copies only and to make new pack of maps, that they sell 2 000 000 or 3 000 000 copies, what do you think they will choose?
