Canonical drop the Unity desktop environment for Ubuntu favour of going back to GNOME

Since my first attempt with Ubuntu and Unity, i've always switched to XFCE right after installation is done, if no option was given during the process. Now i'm on Mint XFCE since i think 3 years, and quite happy white it. I may change next time i change computer, maybe, not sure to what.

Question: Is there any interest in me doing a separate site to cover general Linux news?

I think it's good like it is today. "Gaming on Linux" is about gam+ing, the process of being a gamer on Linux. For me, it involves obviously the games, but also the tool, the idea, the political choice of Linux vs the rest of the world and so on.

Having to go to yet another website would feel very unnecessary.

The Great Whale Road, a story-driven turn-based tactics game with RPG elements, my review

I really like the way you write your thoughts at the beginning of articles, most of the time. Not trying to catch us, like "you will never guess what's inside this box !"...

The game has some obvious similarities to The Banner Saga, but sadly The Great Whale Road falls short in nearly every way. It tries to do a lot, but each feature is dull, repetitive and lacking any imagination.

Never tried. I love "Steampunk" genre, but i never felt attracted by this game. I feel it has a steampunk paint, witout much depth, but i may be fully wrong about that.

Stellaris: Utopia, the first major expansion is now up for pre-order

Even now with several patch, i feel the game is quickly empty. I played a few games, only one to "completion", and then i thought "why should i play again ?". Maybe this first expansion will change my mind.

Megaquarium, a new and exciting looking simulation game about building your own aquarium

I know it's a game, but i don't like zoo or aquarium or safari or other "realistic animaly themed" park games. I'm fine killing people with heavy machine guns, put them in jail, starve them, freeze them, harvest their organs to build a cyborg miner, etc, but i'm less willing doing so with animals. Hi, how do you know it ? Reading the chat, i can't see anything about the content, but the pretty bad soccer game.

Editorial: On paying for Linux games when you already have a Windows version

One point is that, too often, the game is "ported to", not "developed for" Linux OS.

For older games, the ones i bought before being a full-Linux user, i don't care, prices have drop a lot and it's easy to get games for less than 10 or even 5€, legally and legitimately. For new games, i'm ready to pay a fee for a port, if, everyone pay for it too. I like the idea to pay for "the core game + OS", so i could buy a game let say 25€ + 5€ for Linux, +5€ for Windows OS, +5€ for Mac.

However i think Linux is still seen as a garage-geek OS by a huge amount of people, and the market is not ready nor willing to adapt. And more than everything else, i think the pressure from Microsoft is way too important. Just look how many devs use "PC/Mac/Linux", instead of "Win/Mac/Linux", to advertize the game. It was not like this a few years ago. Linux/Mac is growing, but people didn't change their habit "PC games" is related to Windows, and i don't see it changing anytime soon.

Pfff, one more... No wonder why players can be naggy at time, when you see project like this.

However i like to think about the many others that actually do provide what they say, and sometimes more.

Dope TrashCanners, a free online shooter (with bots) that has an amusing twist
12 Mar 2017 at 9:28 am UTC

It's really fun, and as i follow the game since mid-2015 (http://forum.canardpc.com/threads/100902-Jeu-Disponible%21-Dope-TrashCanners-Ouai-gros [External Link]), it gives some special love feeling to see it's actually a game now. And it's free, it's well worth your after-lunch break, and probably more.
