Humble Bundle decides you need another launcher for parts of Humble Choice
12 Jan 2022 at 6:11 pm UTC Likes: 2

As long as Humble continues providing the monthly games as Steam keys, then I will probably continue subscribing and pausing/cancelling whenever needed.

But those that are looking for other legit bundle sites, I recommend taking a look at Fanatical and Indiegala. My thoughts on these sites:

                      | Humble     | Fanatical   | IndieGala
======================+============+=============+==========
Indies assortment     | GREAT      | GOOD        | GOOD
AA/AAA assortment     | GREAT      | GREAT       | OKAY
Store Prices          | GOOD*      | GOOD**      | GOOD
Bundle Games Quality  | GOOD       | GOOD        | MEH
Bundle Prices         | GOOD       | GOOD****    | GREAT
Windows Client        | YES        | NO PLANS    | YES
Mac Client            | NO         | NO PLANS    | SOON
Linux Client          | NO         | NO PLANS    | SOON
Key Trading Platform  | NO         | NO          | YES
Key Giveaway Platform | NO         | NO          | YES
Key Gifting Allowed   | LIMITED*** | YES         | YES
Surprise Mechanics    | NO         | YES         | NO
Special Discounts     | FOR SUBS   | REPEAT BUYS | NO
=============================================================

* Store prices are good, but only if you have the subscribers discount
** Overall good prices, coupons for next purchase are given with larger purchases
*** Humble can ban accounts that gift keys (tip: claim the keys, do not send gift links)
**** Really depends on the individual bundle,

Summary:
Fanatical is very similar to Humble when it comes to the assortment of games they have on offer. The standard Fanatical prices are often without coupons better than what Humble has on offer. Also they do not have "unwritten" rules about what you can do with the keys. Fanatical bundles are usually good but slightly less affordable than Humble, however desirable games often show up in Fanatical bundles before they get to Humble.

IndieGala bundles are typically cheap indie "shovelware" games. A lot of anime/hentai games appear to be popular there. But they do occasionally have some bundles with legit good point and click adventure games and such. The store itself has a worse assortment of games than Humble and Fanatical, but they do have some random sales on AA/AAA games that are really good. From a platform/technical perspective IndieGala I like the most, they have a bunch of features and have also announced to be working on a Linux client.,

OpenRazer 3.2.0 brings more device support for Razer fans on Linux
13 Dec 2021 at 10:43 pm UTC

Quoting: samurroNever heard of that company before. Why should it be better than any Razer or Logitech product?
Yea it is a small brand, from a software/compatibility point of view better because all functionality works out of the box. Unlike with Razer and Logitech products where you have to install third-party software to change settings.

But if only taking the hardware into consideration that is subjective and up for debate. There is no mouse that universally is perfect for everyone, shape, size, weight, tactile feel is all a matter of taste. Personally I don't like Razer because of past experiences with their products breaking, but maybe they have changed or I just had bad luck.

Quoting: Mountain ManRazer products are trash. I suppose it's nice that someone is going to the effort to try and support them in Linux, but why bother for such low quality peripherals when there are much better options that "just work" out of the box?
I am looking for a wireless mouse, any recommendations?
For a wireless mouse with official Linux support I recommend Ninjutso Origin One X (driverless, DPI is configured with a button and battery indicated with a LED).

I can't think of any other wireless gaming mouse that works fully out of the box without needing some third-party software on Linux. When it comes to wired mice there are much more options available.

Resident Evil Village gets better on Linux with the latest Proton Experimental
15 May 2021 at 6:54 pm UTC

I think there is a lot of appeal in the Resident Evil games, if one likes the classic survival horror formula (and I do )

- In Resident Evil you can fight back, there is action!
- Great production values and a lot of content
- Likeable campy story and characters

I was hyped for Resident Evil Village especially because it is in first person like Resident Evil 7 (that game is actually my favorite in the entire series).

Most other modern horror games are indie titles that are often just simple "walking sims" with jump scares, quick time events and perhaps some occasional running away/hiding from enemies. Horror games where you can fight back are uncommon nowadays.

FMV adventure Dark Nights with Poe and Munro gets a Linux Beta

Good news and it is also on sale now so bought it, going to report back if I encounter any issues with the Linux version. Not expecting any problems though, because the devs previous Linux versions have worked fine

Kathy Rain: Director's Cut announced and will support Linux
21 Jan 2021 at 8:32 pm UTC

Looks good!. I'm curious if the Director's Cut uses an updated/extended version of AGS? Or if they have moved the game to a completely different engine. I know some developers have struggled with AGS games being unstable on Linux.

Bloody Service is an 80’s slasher inspired FMV and a visual novel, expect lots of death

As a fan of old FMV games I had to buy this, hope it lives up to all my cheesy expectations

Quoting: whizseIn the mean time, what oldie FMVs have I missed out on? I have played and loved Gabriel Knight 2, and am currently working my way through a Tex Murphy game.
"Press X to Not Die", "The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker" and "Roundabout" are great FMV games that have native Linux support

Those games are not that old though, but might be worth taking a look at anyway if you like them FMVs

Steam Autumn Sale and the 2020 Steam Award Nominations are now live
26 Nov 2020 at 10:17 pm UTC

Don't forget to nominate games for the Steam Awards, especially if they had a good Linux version!. A good opportunity to give some exposure to games that may have been overlooked,

Personally though I have not actually played that many games this year that apply to be nominated. Currently, I have picked the following:

LABOR OF LOVE AWARD: UnReal World
OUTSTANDING VISUAL STYLE AWARD: Art of rally
MOST INNOVATIVE GAMEPLAY AWARD: Carrion
BEST GAME YOU SUCK AT AWARD: DRAG
BEST SOUNDTRACK AWARD: Streets of Rage 4

Still thinking about the other categories :dizzy:

KDE teams up with PinePhone for the PinePhone - KDE Community edition

@tonR You can do it via a web browser, but the app is needed to be able to login. Instead of typing username and passwords, you instead are asked to enter social security number, and then on have to launch the app and enter a pin code. So in practice it works like any 2-factor authenticator application, just that it is tied to your social security number.

Quoting: SalvatosThat’s pretty crazy. What do you do if you don’t have a smartphone?
Well it will be miserable, for example:

Banking: You would have to switch to a bank that still offers an alternative identification solution, or has manual physical handling of bill payments (at additional outrageously high fees of course)

Filing Taxes: You could do it by sending traditional paper work, but that comes at a penalty of getting tax refunds several months later than anyone who signed them digitally.

Basically you can still work around not having an electronic identification in most cases, but it is getting increasingly harder and more expensive to do so.
