Lots Of Big Games Confirmed For SteamOS, Torchlight II Now Out, Payday 2, Mordor And More Coming Too

Valve has announced a Steam sale simply titled ”STEAMOS SALE” with interesting games that are already available and games that they claim are heading over to the platform. The list seems to include some quite big titles too!
A big part of the games featured on the sale are titles that are already on Linux, such as the Aspyr ports Borderlands 2 and Civilization V and indies like Ziggurat and Kerbal Space Program, but as much as we love those games the announcement has something even bigger. Games that apparently are getting ported but have so far been unannounced.
Torchlight II is now officially available, so go check it out. It seems they waited for this big announcement to make a real splash!
Now, before I set out to list these games, I'd like to remind all of you not to blindly buy the games mentioned. I know, I know, it seems very official and all, but we haven't heard anything from some of these titles, so be careful. We are trying to reach out to everyone we know for confirmation.
However, they have massive "Coming to SteamOS" banners on the Steam homepage, so it's extremely exciting.
Okay, now that we have the disclaimers out of the way it's time to blow your minds.

Shadow of Mordor is officially confirmed, and is being ported by Feral Interactive. Feral have stated to us officially that it will release “this spring”, and they have publicly announced it on twitter now too:
Payday 2 is fully official now too:
Saints Row IV, Company of Heroes 2, GRID Autosport and Total War™: ROME II are also official, and they have updated their store pages to say this:
Magicka 2 have updated their store page availability to state this:
Batman: Arkham Knight - Already has a Linux icon, possibly not a same-day release even though it has a Linux icon, as the store notes it will be released on SteamOS in the "fall" which is after the release. So, not sure why it has a Linux icon now.
The Witcher III - The only one not mentioning anything about SteamOS/Linux on their store page.

I have nearly all of the games on that page, except the pre-order ones. It's sad that I won't be able to give money to Torchlight, Payday, SaintsRow, Rome & CoH...
Promised myself I wouldn't pre-order anything (only thing I every pre-ordered was BL:TPS, because that was the first big day one Linux launch, and I really wanted to thank them), but I'll definitely be buying the new Witcher, Shadow of Mordor, Attila, Cities and Batman at some point after they are released on Linux.
Really excited about the GDC habbenings.

Agreed! @ 1080p it seems to be running really well. I have "crazy" specs so it is hard to say if the port is good or bad. I however, am nearly positive that an amazing GOL headline article is incoming though. :D
I would say it is at the very least a very decent port. I get a very fluid gameplay at 1080p with all graphic settings maxed out (don't know the exact fps cause I just played for 20 min without the fps HUD) with Kubuntu 14.10 64bit with Linux 4.0 rc1 and mesa (radeonsi) 10.6 git with llvm 3.7 support with my Radeon HD 7870 2GB.

AMD's driver on Windows isn't so horrible. Granted, I don't own an AMD card at the moment but alot of my friends do; and the last time I did (a few years back), my experience in Windows was fine...it was Linux that was the issue (thus moving to NV and sticking with them since). So i've not encountered alot of reports from them of consistent issues. IIRC, AMD are working with the team of the open-source driver to create/unify a set of drivers...AMD provide supervision and some proprietary blobs. Thus there's a likely chance that, when it's done, they'll be solid drivers for AMD users on Linux.

I think most of the "big" Japanese companies that are around (Namco Bandai, Capcom, Konami, Square Enix etc) are aware of PC gamers. On top of that, i'm also confident they're aware of Valve's initiative with SteamOS/Steam Machines. The only issues are the costs/talent pool to port their library (or at least their hot sellers). If not done in-house, there's always Aspy/Feral to contact. :) If, already, there are big companies making the effort to bring their games to Linux/SteamOS, this will definitely catch their attention.
