Starbound is the epic singleplayer and multiplayer 2D sandbox game from Chucklefish. They have just pushed out a massive new stable release.

I'm a big fan of the game, but I will be waiting for the full content to really dig deep into it.

The new update adds:
-Planet bookmarks
-Teleporters
-Ship pets
-New location: The ark
-Improved AI pathfinding
-New biome "Slime Caves"
-Lots of fixes and improvements

One of their previous patches also fixed the launcher on Steam for Linux, so that's ace too.

See the full patch notes here, and find Starbound on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

They should really improve combat mechanics first. Its uplayable for me, not fun at all.
