QuoteIntro:
Before being imprisoned for eternity, Mephistopheles, the Lord of Darkness, put his sinister knowledge into several tomes which were scattered across the land. Many wicked souls were corrupted by the Devil and spent their lives searching for the wretched Tomes of Mephistopheles, to gain the knowledge of their unholy power. It has been foretold that the beholder of the Tomes will possess the greatest power known to mankind and will rule the world, but will corrupt it and leave it in ruins. The secret society known as the Deputies of Uriel dispatched its most skillful members to find the Tomes and destroy them at any cost. Will you fulfill your duty or succumb to the corruption of the Dark Lord ?

Description:
Tomes of Mephistopheles is a first-person
action-RPG dungeon crawler. With its fast-paced fluid combat, a multitude of medieval and magical weapons, an in-depth custom spell system, and randomly generated persistent worlds, ToM is a pinnacle of the genre.
Seeking the sinister Tomes, you will forge a path through the dungeons using anything that becomes available to you, while attaining skill and power along the way by exploring, questing, and crafting unique equipment and tailoring spells for yourself.

Features:
Crawl through vast, procedurally generated dungeons and overworlds.
Use explosives or other means to create your own path through a destructible world.

Well I for one am waiting for the Desura version. Promotions or not, I check what new games they have and buy many of them. Like many linux gamers I already had ss through the hib though.
I cant really be bothered to go to each individual game webpage to download updates...

I'll see what I can do...

I do the same thing, Nerv. I'm waiting for the Desura release. It's just a simple matter of time, really.
motorsep Feb 19, 2012
well, perhaps you guys gonna have to wait for a loooong time...

what happened with supporting indie Linux game developers? What if I want to be free from distributors and distribute games directly only?

I've read on the twitter account of motorsep that they had only about 40 sales from Desura, knowing that I'm not suprised about their decision. You could argue that's because SS: Burning Retribiution appeared in HIB, but still it's very bad sales from Desura. All the things that motorsep bring about Desura lacking in the sales power are perfectly valid not only that, but also when there was last update for the client (couple months ago and that's unacceptable).

motorsep what could you tell us about Steel Storm II. I'm wondering when there will be an Alpha version of it released (I've seen on blog that it is approaching). I've preordered it almost instantly after the announcement, but I didn't get any e-mail back. On your twitter account you mention the possibility of using Unigine for that game, but the major problem is that you can't import content from Blender. Did you ask UNIGINE Corp. about adding this feature.
motorsep Feb 19, 2012
Steel Storm 2 is shaping up.. Since ToM has been in works before SS2, I had to focus on ToM to get alpha out.

SS2 alpha will be coming as soon as we add bots (hopefully it won't be an issue) and as soon as I finish another gun and pickups.

Unigine Corp doesn't see it as a priority. They think indies should buy 3DS Max or Maya. I already hired a third-party to develop Blender2Unigine exporter and they got it done. Now I have seamless export from Blender to Unigine.

However, while end-user thinks Unigine is awesome, I can tell ya it's not awesome to develop for. Support is horrible. I personally coded vweap to render and shoot, player to run around and animate in DarkPlaces in a week or two. Considering that I am no coder, this is awesome. I have a coder with 8 years of C++ experience and 2 years of Unigine experience trying to get first-person cam with a gun in Unigine done and he hasn't made that happen yet o_O. Networking is extremely horrible in Unigine. DLC and mission pack support is non-existent. Modding aspects are non-existent. No dedicated servers for the community to run. No way to implement cel shading without Unigine Corp. writing it and supplying it with the engine's SDK. And they told me they won't do it. Basically everything I need for SS2 needs to be coded and either I have to pay for Unigine Corp to code it, or I have to buy full source license (we won binary license, similar to UDK, but less customizable) and code it myself.

So while I have a hope for Unigine, the hope is fading away. So SS2 alpha will be DP powered. If Unigine will not help us with what we need (networking, GLSL shader, modding support, dlc support, dedicated server, etc.) I will be very disappointed and will release SS2 powered by DP.
Bestia Feb 20, 2012
Unigine isn't a requiered thing. I know that SS 2 will look pleasantly with DarkPlaces and if it is something that works better for you then it doesn't need to be changed.
motorsep Feb 20, 2012
That is correct, however, I really wanted to have ragdolls, cloth, advanced particles, seamless streaming worlds, etc. with Unigine. The game can be much more atmospheric.

Quoting: "motorsep, post: 3448"well, perhaps you guys gonna have to wait for a loooong time...

Well perhaps I wount buy the Game at all then (though I probably would anyway ;) ).
I do want to support Indy Games, but I also want to support a healthy ecosystem around them. I think desura is a great step towards getting that. It invalidates many of the concerns developers have with making games for Linux (discoverability, supporting many distributions, dependencies...).

From what I have read its very easy to put your game (and to update it) on desura. How about a compromise? Why don't you publish on desura as well as independently, but price the game higher on Desura. For me Desura adds value, so I would be willing to pay more to have the game there.
motorsep Feb 20, 2012
It's not fare for Desura to get their huge share for not providing PR and advertising at least in the same scope Steam does.

Once ToM will get autopatching, how are you going to justify having games on Desura?
