Achron - time travelling RTS

By - | Views: 5,321
A game I have covered before but one that never seems to get much attention. Achron is a time travelling RTS game by Hazardous Software.

The game has recently received a few new versions and at the end of last year received a nice price drop!

Thanks to this patch the game looks a lot nicer and has become quite a bit more playable and the general feedback from the patch is the game has become a lot better!

Worth checking it out again folks! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

The game looks great but the sole point stopping me from buying it is the "you must connect to us" to play a lan game. Really disappointing considering you get 2 copies for 19.99 (i.e. enough to be able to at least duel someone). I have zero issue with a one time online registration, but single player or mutliplayer lan should never need a continuous or even brief connection.

They should put this up on Desura, it might get it a bit more Linux attention.

It's already on Desura but somehow doesn't show in list of games for Linux. Type Achron in the search box of Desura and it will show.

Indeed, you are right. Strange...

It's not updated on Desura yet either.

I might try it again now, but after buying it and pretty much disliking it after 15min of gameplay it has sit unused ever since :-/.
IMHO the main problem of horrible unit path finding AI doesn't seem to be addressed in this release either?

There seem to be quite a few games in this situation: http://www.desura.com/forum/thread/digitanks-not-listed-as-gnulinux-game-despite-being-available

One thing that bugs me about the game is that you have a move command and a move shoot command, I mean why in this day and age can an RTS game not move and shoot at the same time requiring two options? RTS games have had this capability for years. It's one thing that put me personally off about it.
