OpenMW Open Source Morrowind Engine V0.26.0 Released

The OpenMW team is proud to announce the release of version 0.26.0! Grab it from our Downloads Page for all operating systems. This is the most violent release of OpenMW to date, with the implementation of Melee combat, Lyncanthropy, and Drowning. See below for the full changelog.

  • Extreme shaking may occur during cell transitions for some users (enable anti-aliasing as a possible workaround)
  • Polish version of Morrowind.esm makes OpenMW crash

This is a great project, and I'm glad to see it progressing like this. I hope to one day actually give Morrowind a shot. And since it's open-source, maybe other similar games could be made with it?

OpenMW is definitely in my top 10 open source projects and these update videos are always interesting to watch. I might actually grab a copy of Morrowind at some point and have some fun with OpenMW.

Certainly, we've always linked the engine with Morrowind because it's based on the vanilla one running OpenMW, but actually we're also developing a new editor (which will be covered in the future) with which one can easily start composing their own game. And since the code is open-sourced anyone can start to tinker with it to implement features like ragdoll physics etc. It must be said though that we will probably not work on these grand features ourselves since our focus will be in making the engine/editor more accessible and functional.
