The Steam Universe Is Expanding In 2014

By - | Views: 26,068
A new section of Steam's website has opened with a countdown that will end on Monday with the first of three announcements for Steam in the living room.

SteamLast year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads.
This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room.
Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.

Pretty exciting to think about what this will all really mean for Linux and a Steam Box. If they don't announce a Steam Box then I think everyone will be pretty surprised.

It does beg the question though, will you be buying an official Steam Box for your big screen TV when it comes out, when you already have your PC/Laptop?

There is no doubt in my mind I will be buying one. This is our best chance to push Linux as a gaming platform and if the Steam Box does well Linux gaming does well.

Plus I haven't used any of my consoles after Steam for Linux was released and I think this will help get me back into the Living room a bit.

+1 if it can offer something my PC can't.

If they come out with a well designed controller I would easily pick one up to support them and to have a really nice controller.

Well since I´ve bought a new laptop and a new gaming rig this year, mainly because of Steam for Linux, I probably won´t buy a Steam box for a year or two. But it´s definitly interesting.

Just a note for anyone that might no buy. The Xbox 360 has only sold around 80 million boxes, we as a community have a huge amount of power to push the Steam box to be a success in the market and if we had access to a similar library to what 360 or PS3 has then I think we will really see things move.

Well, I plan to buy one since Valve has planned to release it, but in the end it depends on the specs & the price.

I will try to promote the steambox, but Ive been using a steambox in my living room for about 2 years now. I have a computer that looks like stereo equipment and matches my home theater (most people dont even notice that its a computer) and Ive been running steam big picture mode on it since it came out. i do have wireless xbox controllers for my console friends but I prefer to use a wireless gaming keyboard and mouse. I sit on my couch and then use something like this http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/bizchair1_2275_2294275068 for the keyboard and mouse and its very comfortable.

I am planning to buy one too, I thought interesting that the latest beta update was described as preparing the client to receive the new features or something like this.
