Guncrypt is truly a bullet hell like no other! Not only do you individually customize the bullets, the movement mechanics are quite unique too.

Coming from Halfbrick Studios made made the likes of Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride, and other games played by billions of people this is coming to Steam with a playable demo out now. It works with Proton but they told GamingOnLinux via email that Native Linux support is planned post-launch.

You've no doubt played lots of games where you make your own loadout of cards, weapons, items and more. But here it's quite different. The build system is your actual revolver cylinder. Collect bullets during your run to load them in with the order being part of the strategy because bullets stack, create combinations and modify each other based on the loading sequence. So it's a mixture of bullet hell with a deck-building style.

The movement is different to the usual sort too - you have to hold your mouse button to click and drag your character around the screen (or single-click somewhere to teleport), and you only fire whilst your button is held down. You also don't do the aiming as it's automatic. A fun addition is that you can use the click to teleport system to jump inside a wall for a few quick seconds, in case you need a little breather during a particularly overwhelming room. You might think that teleport system would make it easy, however some rooms react to you teleporting like walls for cover vanishing or swapping locations - it's all rather smart. You can also use it to teleport inside some enemy attacks to avoid them - but easier said than done. I've already lost count of the amount of times I've died teleporting into an enemy bullet - woops.

All together this does make it quite frantic and unusual, especially with the small rooms you progress through in a similar sort of style to The Binding of Isaac. Also quite a challenge since you have a limited amount of bullets before the reload, so it's a constant game of cat and mouse and you fling your mouse all around to dodge the onslaught of enemy bullets.

As an example of how the bullet system works - in one run my set-up went like this: my first bullet added poison to enemies to get the ball rolling on taking their health, the second did a burst-fire to really hammer down enemy health, after that a lightning bullet which gives me 1 lightning and applies 1 lightning to the previous burst fire and then a fourth bullet triggers 4 lightning on an enemy when it hits. There's so many fun combos like that, and seeing the bullets in action is awesome. Some combos you might think would be quite over-powered, and they can be, which is part of the fun but it seems quite nicely balanced with the type of enemies you get and their varied bullet-spam attack patterns so it remains a decent challenge.

During a run you'll also get to collect special relics that

With the combination of movement mechanics and the bullet system - it's the most unique bullet hell I've played in recent memory.

Really good fun and a cracking demo you need to try out, I can easily see myself losing lots of hours to this one. The demo has already completely suckered me in for one run after another. I simply do not want to put it down. Easy to get into, and good fun to repeat as you try out all the different bullet combinations.
