Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.

Was the same for Borderlands 2. Probably a fix: just copy them over manually from your windows partition.

My graphics are kind of broken; it's still playable but kinda ugly. Instead of shadows being dark, shadow are kinda odd colors instead - hues of wine red and olive green - it looks like this
I am on Xubuntu, latest version, latest NVidia binary drivers, with a GFX760. Any ideas what might be wrong here? It happens with both highest and lowest settings.
Worth noting the game runs like a charm aside of that, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Well downloaded today, and i got some weird results, sometimes it's looking good and running good, but sometimes i got just unreadable texts, messed textures, with wrong and flashing colors, and it looks like this is totally random, changing on every start. I don't have a clue what's happenning, tried to play with graphic settings, but that isn't work. So now if i want to play i must start the game 2-3 times and pray for the god of AMD/OpenGL :P (SteamOS 145, A8 7600k, fglrx drivers)

I must be one of the lucky ones as it runs beautifully on my machine, I tried it in Windows on the same hardware recently & it was like pulling teeth. Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT with the 331.38 proprietary drivers.

You are allowed to own a copy of dead island in Germany but buying is prohibited. So one can travel to UK buy it and travel back to Germany.
You are also allowed to buy it in Germany as an adult. But it is not easy to find a shop/store as they are not allowed to advertise the game, which includes listing the game in an Online Store like Steam.

the only flaw this game has for me is... it launched after borderlands. bought it anyway, but it will take a while to get to it ;)

@German users, just use a [VPN](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_network) to order your copy. The well respected [AirVPN](https://airvpn.org/) (I use them myself) starts at just €1 and then there's the newly launched [FrootVPN](https://www.frootvpn.com/) which is free.

Oh God, I am sorry for bringing up the piracy debate here. There's no reason to argument against it - they will refuse to accept reason no matter how it is explained.
It's just sad to see it in the Linux community. Somehow I like to think we are better than that. I'll prefer to keep living with that illusion.

The game plays really well, and it's some good, silly fun.
The only problem I have with it is the auto-equip. If you hold the pick-up key fore more than 0.1 (!!) seconds, whatever you're trying to pick up becomes your active item, and your currently active item is either dropped, or put into your inventory.
Fortunately there's a fix, but it means editing files in a .pak (zip file), which means they'll likely be overridden if there's an update and/or you verify cache integrity. Boo.
