Metro 2033 Redux & Metro Last Light Redux Launch On Linux, Sorta (UPDATED)

Update: Metro 2033 Redux is now downloading.

Original article:

Both Metro 2033 Redux & Metro Last Light Redux now have Linux icons on Steam, but they aren't currently downloadable. Looks like someone either forgot a switch or two.

Someone actually emailed in to ask us to notify people of this horrific scam taking place. Sarcasm aside, it happens a lot, and it's due to how many switches you need to hit on the Steam control panels or something.

Steam itself is saying it's out now:

Considering they are on sale right now too, it's probably legit, but the developers forgot to make the download completely public. We will update you when we have more folks.

Ps. If it was you who said it was a scam, please take this as a joke, really! We like to make light of annoying situations.

About the games
Both FPS games have been revamped, and this time Metro 2033 is available on Linux for the first time thanks to it using a newer engine.

Looks like you need 64bit too, so yet again it's time to upgrade if you haven't. They also require OpenGL 4. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Strange thing, the game works on my laptop but does not work on my Desktop... Impossible to launch it, even after to click in my games's library.

Can't use the *very high* settings in both metro 2033 and metro last light redux, the game goes haywire and displays all sorts of graphical glitches. Anyone else with the same problem ?

other than that, both games run really well on my system, GTX680 driver 346.22

It's a Nvidia driver bug. Use 343.x driver resolve the problem.

It sure does! I'm not entirely positive that it is using the GPU to do the work or the CPU. I have not had time to try and test with and without and watch CPU usage to tell yet. I can say this though.. it uses the multi-threading very well. On my 6 core Intel all "12" logical cores are almost dead even at around 30% usage.

I'm using the nvidia 343.36 drivers and it runs damn well except for the hiccups every minute or two and at least 2033 locked up Xorg twice last night in a 30 minute period. I had to switch to tty2 and killall Xorg.bin. Anyone else using SLI with it? I'm wondering if AFR/SLI is causing the hiccups and lockups.

Edit* Oh, someone asked if I had switched to performance governor. Yes I had.

No hiccups or lock ups with a single nvidia gtx 670 card with very high settings (and without ssao) and 343.xx proprietary drivers. The game actually runs butter smooth for me. So I guess it might have do to with your configuration?...

That did the trick :D
The game runs great now with *very high* settings, thanks ;)

Wasn't this on sale yesterday for 16.99$? It said "on sale till Monday 12/15", but today the bundle is up to 25$. A shame they upped the price just before I got paid. No sale. :\

Seems it doesn't like something about my XFCE setup.. it is working just fine with openbox. It was late last night when I got it downloaded and I didn't bother switching over to openbox where I normally game. Not the first time a game didn't play nicely with XFCE for me either.
