Metro 2033 Redux & Metro Last Light Redux Launch On Linux, Sorta (UPDATED)

Update: Metro 2033 Redux is now downloading.

Original article:

Both Metro 2033 Redux & Metro Last Light Redux now have Linux icons on Steam, but they aren't currently downloadable. Looks like someone either forgot a switch or two.

Someone actually emailed in to ask us to notify people of this horrific scam taking place. Sarcasm aside, it happens a lot, and it's due to how many switches you need to hit on the Steam control panels or something.

Steam itself is saying it's out now:

Considering they are on sale right now too, it's probably legit, but the developers forgot to make the download completely public. We will update you when we have more folks.

Ps. If it was you who said it was a scam, please take this as a joke, really! We like to make light of annoying situations.

About the games
Both FPS games have been revamped, and this time Metro 2033 is available on Linux for the first time thanks to it using a newer engine.

Looks like you need 64bit too, so yet again it's time to upgrade if you haven't. They also require OpenGL 4. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: omer666Played Metro 2033 Redux for half an hour.
In fact, resolution is included in the general "Graphics Quality" option, which sucks.
The other thing that sucks is that the only anti-aliasing that is available is SSAA, which allows you to play 2K, 3K or 4K on a HD screen. Well, my GeForce GTX660 can't handle that :p So I'm without any anti-aliasing and it's kind of... pixelated sometines.

But on another hand:
- I run this maxed out (appart from SSAA of course :p)
- I run this with PhysiX and that's really awesome
- It never crashed
- It was the best looking thing I ever played on PC

To sum it all up, I'm really, really pleased.
THANK YOU 4A Games.

It does have a SSAA option of .5 / 2 / 4
.5 works fine on mine 660ti but any higher is a slideshow.

Also the resolution on very high is 2560 x 1600 according to my config file.
But it is displaying at 1080p. So it would seem that it is rendering at 2560x1600 and then scaling
it down to 1920x1080.

With the advanced physx. I do think we might finally have our first game with hardware physx. The game does support the correct version of physx that was enabled for linux. And I can't see any extra cpu load from enabling it.

Very impressive multi-threading aswell. I see all 8 cpu cores being equally used (4cores with hyperthreading.

I have played it over 5 hours so far without any problems.
Everything maxxed out except SSAA at .5
Amazing work. Love it.

My specs:
Manjaro 64bit KDE
i74770k cpu
GTX660ti 2gb (343.36 driver)
16gb ram

Amazing game!

Amazing plotline!

It is a corridor/rail (sometimes literally) shooter, but the attention to the small details is amazing.

Sometimes, I just sit by the fire, and soak the atmosphere in.

I recommend the book these games are based on: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Metro-2033-Dmitry-Glukhovsky/dp/0575086254

I preordered the games for Linux. Will now install. I only played around 1/3rd of metro 2033, stopped when I learned the redux editions were coming out. Now I can really have fun.

Quoting: leillo1975The "problem" when you activate SSAA is a game's problem, not of the Linux port. Windows version have the same issue:

Oh, I never meant to criticize the port, did I?
Thanks for the links BTW

Yes but it felt like SSAA 0.5 made the game run in 720p instead of full HD... am I wrong?

Well. I played Metro 2033 Redux on Steam OS for 4 hours.
I think it is the first really qualitative port on Linux - OpenGL 4!. Game has cool optimization (running full HD with advanced PhysX without problem).
Al least one game, that equals to Windows version.

I have aliasing in-game even after to enabled the Anti-Aliasing option in my Nvidia settings...
Do you have this problem ?

No, It doesn't have all the settings Windows has. No tessellation too which has me really upset... They said it would be exact to the Windows version.

I'd like to see screenshots of Metro 2033 Linux vs Windows versions just to see if there's an actual difference in looks and performances.

Yeah. I tried Windows version. Linux runs with little less framerate, doesn`t have tesselation function and doesn`t have resolution changing. Still, this is the best port on Linux.

I didn`t saw such problem (But I use SSAA only few minutes (my GTX660 don`t want work good with SSAA 2x).)
And last. I tried same episode on Windows and Linux (Hanter came to metro through gates). And Windows looks uglier. Really, I don`t now, maybe on Windows is some problem with godrays, but that was really as 2002 year.

I made two screenshots: one on Steam OS, other on Windows (don`t have time for more). You can see them on my steam account - Interzeroid
