Satellite Reign had us all very excited, and somehow we missed the bloody release! Satellite Reign officially launched into early access last month, and early reviews are "Very Positive".

For some reason it hasn't showed up in the SteamOS + Linux newly released section for me on Steam, so sorry we are late on this one!

I was a MASSIVE fan of Syndicate on my old Amiga, and since this game is much like it I simply must give it a go.

About the game (Steam)
Satellite Reign is a real-time, class-based strategy game. You control a team of four agents, each with distinct and unique abilities, collectively battling for control of a simulated, living cyberpunk city.

The game world is designed to facilitate emergent gameplay, giving you the tools and freedom to play how you want to play, so you can create strategies and scenarios that not even we had anticipated!

Customise your team with the strength to destroy your enemies head-on, or hack into their facilities to manipulate their infrastructure without them ever knowing you were even there.

Will you take down your enemies with brute-force? Covert espionage and infiltration? Or will you use propaganda to influence the citizens of the city and overthrow the controlling powers?

The world's governments are controlled by mega-corporations, democracy to the highest bidder. Society is structured for the benefit of those in power. The poor exist in the dark squalid underbelly of the city, while the wealthy swim in opulence and luxury on the upper tiers, and the vast middle-class are too comfortable with their lives of convenience to see the world for what it really is. Corporate police patrol the streets, brutally maintaining the status quo, all under the guise of keeping the people safe.
The time for change is now, as a mysterious organisation rises from the slums of the city. They'll have to bribe, steal, hack, kill and augment their way through the barriers between them and their ultimate goal...but what are they trying to achieve? To free the masses from the corporate stranglehold, or to take control for themselves? That, is up to you.

Check out Satellite Reign on Steam now.

I missed this too! This unfortunate situation will be resolved presently.

Can't wait to give it a spin!

Hmm. Looks interesting. The graphics and effects look really good from what I can tell. I'm not typically a fan of top down games like this but there have been some exceptions over the years. OG warcraft 1&2 (not that WoW garbage), starcraft 1&2 and I had a great time with Wasteland 2 even though I'm not really a turn based fan. The trailer is rather short and doesn't really demonstrate much of the gameplay unfortunately. It is a Unity based game so that is already a -5 in my book.. hopefully there are enough +1's to counteract that :P

Yeahhhh.. I wish I could be a plus one, but the game is pretty unplayable on Linux right now (at least on my machine) due to graphical issues.

It is a pre-alpha though, so I'm very confident that it'll be brilliant once all the bugs are ironed out.

Quoting: GuestI fear the game will be sufficiently different from Syndicate to disappoint people expecting, well, Syndicate. Just how it always is. So I'm personally going to wait for the released game and some more footage & reviews before I invest into this (the footage I've seen didn't appeal me so far).
It's a tricky call. I get a distinct Syndicate vibe from it and have been loving it so far. It looks like the more freeform mission structure is probably going to be what divides people (it's hard for me to judge that though since there's a bunch of instructional text that's missing which might change the way that things are presented).

What kind of issues are you having? Aside from untextured cars and a missing font, I'm not encountering anything that's impacting on the game's playability (in fact, it more or less looks as good as it did when I played it on a Windows machine at PAX Australia).

My biggest issue at the moment is performance and load time, but I'm way overdue for an upgrade and they're pushing a bunch of tech, so I don't consider that to be a big deal.

Edit: Oh, there is some SSRR (screen space raytraced reflections) related issue where you can wind up with big blobby black shadows covering up the game, but I had that turned off.

I think that may be what I'm experiencing. It looked like someone had scribbled over most things with a black fountain pen, so half the screen was a jittery black mess. I tried on all three graphics quality settings in the launcher and all three had the same problem, but I'll poke around in the in-game settings when I get back from work tonight and see if I can work around it.

If it's helpful, there's this thread.

It was actually SSR (whatever that is).

Turning m_SSREnabled off in the game fixed it for me. Both m_SSRR options seem to be fine for me (possibly because I have a GTX 970 which can handle them?).

Anyway, I'm enjoying the game now. :D

My guess is that it's meant to be m_SSRREnabled.

Glad to hear that you're sorted! :D

Oh yeah, I'm really, looking forward for its release!
Satellite Reign looks really, really good.
