Dead Island Patch Released For Linux, Finally Playable (Updated)

Dead Island has been patched to fix multiple issues in the Linux version, so it looks like it’s properly playable now months after release. It may have taken over 3 months for the game to get these fixed, but it’s good to see the port wasn’t forgotten about as we thought previously.

With these issues fixed it certainly looks like the game is really playable on Linux now. We will certainly be giving it a real shot with these essentials fixed, as lots of people noted the bugs ruined the game, and they weren't wrong with the loot system broken.

If you have tried the patch be sure to let us know what you think to the Dead Island Linux port now.

Patch notes copied below (spelling errors and all!), this was a Linux-only patch:
QuotePatch notes [Linux]:

- fixed looting issue
- fixed bug with reparing a weapon (up to 100%)
- fullscreen is enabled by deafult
- fixed gamma settings
- reduced executable file size

Update: I can also confirm the frame-rate is much improved too, the game feels very smooth now. If you reset your gamma to default, all graphical issues (for me) seemed to fade too.

Check out Dead Island on Steam.

We just need Dying Light to have a performance patch, and we will have lots of Zombie fun on Linux. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I never realised the 99% weapon repair was a bug, I did find it odd that some weapons wouldn't go to 100% but I just thought it was part of the game, made it more of a challenge anyway.

I can't play this game for constant random freezes/crashes. It can be anywhere from 10 seconds to 20 minutes but it WILL go down, every time guaranteed, requiring me to kill the terminal I launch it in or kill the xserver.

I'm using a GTX 660 with the proprietary drivers on Arch. Anyone experiencing this or got any pointers?

Cheers.

Quoting: GuestSame here, after a few minutes (randomly) I’ll get either a freeze or a crash (assert(m_pOvr)), also on Arch and with a GTX660, but I think on Steam people with different distros have the same issue.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems odd why some (lots?) have no crashes. I'm running with no DE, so pretty much stripped down, I'd have thought the Steam runtime should be pretty consistent for everyone anyway.

Shame, I like the game and could really get into it given the chance.

I'm also getting freezes. Seems to be related to keyboard input for me.
I can reproduce it quite easily: I just have to bind quick-inventory to right cursor. Double tab it: and bam insta freeze!
