Contagion is the Source engine powered Zombie shooter from Monochrome, Inc that was funded on Kickstarter. We have some clarification as to what is going on, as we have been waiting a long time.

The game had a “stretch goal” for Linux & Mac ports and it hit well over that goal, but since the game was released we have seen a few mentions of it, but no actual release.

The developers got back to me nearly 3 months later on Kickstarter:
QuoteI'm sorry Liam we've focused on reporting on Linux/Mac on our Official Steam Community Forums and KS had a hiccup which I just fixed so I wasn't receiving notices.

Linux/Mac requires that we halt development to rewrite on an updated Engine (Valve had to start from scratch for the most part and fix it to support these platforms and even though we tried to fix it without the major road block of stopping development we also failed to get the existing version working) which we plan to do just as soon as we send out the free DLC, bug fixes, and vital features so we can work in the background without hurting the entire community but it is still on.

Also discusses many of the issues we ran into in the last 6 months

So, like me, if you weren’t able to keep up with their Steam announcements due to their being a lot of them, this should clear it up. It’s not an ideal situation, as it seems we are in for many more months of waiting, but to their credit, they were never being silent on it. I have found the announcements they mentioned, but they got swallowed up in a sea of all their other posts.

While they haven’t been as quiet as I thought, it’s still another case of developer promises, money being taken, and no research being done by a developer before-hand to make sure they can do it timely. I hate to be blunt about it, but it’s quite obvious this was the case.

I just hope by the time they release the Linux version, that the community hasn’t died. I would really like to play it, and I hope the next time I post about Contagion that I can praise the developers, as I really don’t like being negative.

You can find Contagion on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I agree, many kickstarters and greenlight campaigns have promised Linux support without the developers looking at the requirements it would take to even do it, or at least haven't attempted, which leads to many of these games never seeing the promised support. I'm personally never interested in kickstarter again, and the only greenlight I'll yes is if I see a working Linux demo.

That's probably the safest way to go about it.

No, source SDK 2013 at least, IIRC. Of course, source 2 would work too, but I don't think the SDK is available yet (or am I mistaken ?)
