Terraria Sandbox Game Plans A July Linux Release

By - | Views: 15,980
Looks like an early birthday present is on its way to me, as the Terraria developers have officially stated Linux & Mac builds should be out in July.

QuoteWe do want to give our Mac and Linux Terrarians a quick update as well. Based upon current status and planning, the plan is that Mac/Linux will launch shortly after 1.3 - aiming for a launch within the month of July. This is being done to ensure the most stable Mac/Linux builds possible so that everyone has the best experience that we can provide.

This will come just after the 1.3 release which has a lovely trailer:

It looks bloody mental going by the trailer. I always wanted to give it a go, and even though Starbound filled a small gap in my heart, Terraria is a "finished" game and much more stable. Not only that, but Starbound is still limiting saved games to your installation, and Terraria is about to have Steam Cloud saving, that alone makes me want it more (I've lost many Starbound characters).

I find it hard to imagine anyone getting bored on Linux now. So, many, games! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I have to admit that this is one of the least-sought Linux releases for me, simply because it ran so well in wine for me. Anyway, I in no way do not appreciate this :D

the action in Terraria looks crazy and mad. I've chalked up over 200 hours with Starbound and it seems like a more polished game especially with certain mods. Plus i've been customizing my own custom mod for Starbound that has a mix of features from the multiple mods i've tried. I basically ripped out all the useless stuff to me, re-balanced everything to be inline with Starbound etc. I've had a dozen characters or more over the coarse of testing mods and playing. I like the direction the nightly builds are going with Starbound. they are adding a lot of nice improvements for this next stable update, which should be sometime near the end of july or early august. if Chucklefish don't come up with a really good end-game story then i'm sure the person doing the starbound side stories will. that mod has everything needed to really make for a good end-game story.

Terraria is by far best played with friends. Even in wine to host a Mono Terraria Server would require a SSH tunnel hack to get around the WINE Terraria DNS issue connecting to other PC's via IP on a LAN.

Terraria is by far the most anticipated Linux game for me. Finally a awesome chill out game for after work.
