Race Online, a fun little 2D racer has test builds available for Linux

Race Online is bringing back memories of some Amiga games I played many years ago, and it already performs nicely on Linux.

On the 19th of February the developer put up Linux & Mac versions of Race Online, and I've already put a few minutes into it to see that everything actually works as expected. It is in Early Access, so it's not finished.

About the game (Official)
Race Online is the ultimate top down racing game with a strong retro feeling and super smooth gameplay. It is a fresh and evolved racing experience that seamlessly combines all the best parts from the good old racing games to the new.

Single player
Single player includes three different game modes. Single races are quick and fun to play at any time, but the real bread and butter of the single player mode are the lengthy careers that are unique for each vehicle in the game. On the other hand, the time trial mode is great for fine tuning driving lines towards the perfection, but also helps to achieve new lap records and to learn tricks and traits of each car in the game.

The developer is planning online racing too which hasn't made it in yet, which I can imagine it being extremely funny, something I want to livestream for sure if we can rope some more people into playing it.

If you do buy it, be sure to tell the developer you purchased it for the Linux version. I am hoping it won't be too long before it's given official status, as it's a lovely little game. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Good old Slicks. Haven't had so much fun with any other simplistic top-down racer before or since. I can't really explain why.
