NVIDIA have released two driver updates recently, 375.82 and 384.59 both with plenty of fixes and new GPU support.
The 384.59 driver carries forward work done in the earlier beta driver release at the end of last month and adds in these additional fixes:
See the changelog forum topic here.
Then there's the 375.82 driver release for those sticking with it, which brings in more of the same.
I personally tend to wait a while before updating my GPU driver to see if anyone sees any more issues, although I am now quite behind on the 381.22 driver, now looks to be a good time to update. If you're on Ubuntu you can use this PPA.
It's usually worthwhile updating, especially since newer Feral ports tend to need later drivers.
The 384.59 driver carries forward work done in the earlier beta driver release at the end of last month and adds in these additional fixes:
- Fixed a bug that prevented changes to stereo eye assignment from getting applied from the nvidia-settings control panel.
- Fixed a bug that caused S4 suspend (also known as "hibernate") to hang during suspend when SLI was enabled.
- Fixed a bug where devices would not be properly enumerated by the Vulkan driver. See the "Known Issues" section of the README for more details.
- Fix a bug with GLX_EXT_buffer_age where incorrect buffer age values would be reported for SLI AFR configurations. In such configurations buffer age may now be greater than 3, the previous maximum buffer age.
- Fixed a bug that could cause hanging and Xids when performing RandR transforms with Overlay and SLI enabled.
- Extended the information reported by the NVIDIA Xinerama X extension to report PRIME displays in addition to directly-connected displays.
- Fixed a bug that caused HDMI audio devices to appear or disappear inconsistently when HDMI devices were hotplugged or unplugged.

Are there any comments on terrible optimus support in 2017?

I've just updated from the previous driver & the intermittent screen tearing I was seeing in Firefox appears to be gone with 384.59.

Why is Nvidia maintaining two active driver releases for Linux? What's the benefit of using the 375 driver over 384?

The problem goes deeper than that for me unfortunately :( I never got HDMI sound to work even when using pure Nvidia card. My laptop also keeps overheating eventhough I have it on IntelHD. Their optimus support at least for my device is just shite. It is possible that they fix3d it a littlebit with newer devices, but you can still use HDMI only when having the specific GPU on, so many limitations and they don't do ANYTHING in order to improve it.

Hmm, maybe I'm less picky?
I'm running a GTX980 on my desktop and an HD530/940MX optimus on the laptop, both with 375.66.
I neither have issues with HDMI sound(*) nor with the optimus switching. So no pressure for updates on my side (that Feral games need newer ones doesn't bother me, as everything Feral is steam-only).
(*)I'm not using it anymore though, as the sound stops when the monitor goes to suspend. OK for work/gaming, but not for background music :(
