Title: What have you been playing recently?
Liam Dawe 3 days ago
Hello community! Time for another question time! What have you all been playing lately?

Overwatch still firmly has its teeth hooked deep into me, thanks to family being into it. So I've been ranking up various characters in it trying to get those fancy borders. So happy it works so well in Proton nowadays.

And apart from that, I'll be sinking a great many hours into Death Stranding 2. Absolutely gorgeous game, can't wait to explore more of it!

Been getting back into Elite Dangerous, finding some systems of my own to colonise. The new ships that have been added the past year are all real good fun to play with, and the continued revamps of old game mechanics and systems really breathes new life into it.

Looking forward to building on this planet with a 100% oxygen atmosphere, makes for great views when the nearby star shines through it!

On desktop: more Sector Unknown. A small indie solo-dev scifi crpg. I'm probably nearing completion, but it's been super fun so far. I only have one planet left to explore and then the finale. I bet I'll have it done within a couple few weeks. After that I don't even know what I'll start ... so many options! It'll be one of:

Banquet for Fools
Dragonkin the Banished
Greedfall the Dying World
Heroes of SciFi
Pacific Drive
Star Trek Voyager

All great options! I think I'm leaning toward Dragonkin for that arpg crack pipe.

on deck: Cassette Beasts & Ball x Pit. Completely different vibes, but both phenomenal.

DiRT Rally 2.0. Rally truly is the greatest motorsport. Spent 8 hours trying to get a good time on a stage which only took 4-ish minutes to get through.

Also played through On Your Tail, which is very, very Italian and which seems a pretty decent game for younglings.

I also have a Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader run I should try and get through, but I'm kinda bouncing off the setting and second-guessing my choices (not helped by the fact that Wrath of the Righteous kinda soured me a bit on Owlcat's storylines).

I've also bounced off the Zero Parades demo. Forced stat loss _and_ hopeless RNG failures? At least in DR2 I fail because I lack skill, not because my out-of-game luck stat just happens to be -65536.

Warhammer Online: Return of Reckoning OpenRVR Action!

WRC Generations - Some rallying with my wheel. Seems their servers are gone though, no leaderboards anymore. Game still functions though.

Witchfire - a bit of new content discovery in this one, but will mostly keep this game for when the 1.0 will release.

Most recently I've been playing Slay the Spire 2 and going through the unlocks. Before that I played through LEGO City Undercover. Fun little GTA3 like game with lego vibes. And it's basically me going through my backlog. Since my PC is on its way to 8 years and upgrading is out of the question I'm doing older stuff. Also finishing up some stuff in Witcher 3 in preparation for the new DLC. And I started the DLC for Opus Magnum as well.

I've been working my way through the huge Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMix collection (what a mouthful of a title!). I just finished (to be clear: rolled the credits on the story) Kingdom Hearts 1, and I finished Kingdom Hearts 2 and Birth By Sleep earlier this year. (However, I started all three of them over a year ago! A good friend gifted me the entire series on Steam in mid-2024.)

I foolishly tried playing through KH1 on Proud mode, and the final two worlds seriously stressed me out as a result, from trying and repeatedly failing to beat some difficult encounters. Eventually, I went to level grind, which finally enabled me to finish the story. (I did some grinding on the other games as well, but I had planned to do that grinding in order to clear some side content, so it wasn't nearly as frustrating for me.)

With only one game to go in the collection (re:Chain of Memories), I'm taking a break from action/button mashing. I settled on something I haven't done in a long while: reading. ... a visual novel. I've already spent part of today reading Highway Blossoms, and I've been loving it so far. It's kinetic; no gameplay mechanics or choices whatsoever. But that feels like exactly want I want right now.
