For those who like your old school action RPG games and you're interested in game engines, Flare [Official Site] hit the big full release recently along with the new Empyrean Campaign.

For those not familiar, Flare is an open source, 2D action RPG that's highly moddable enabling anyone to create their own entire games with it. I had followed development quite closely years ago, but it went quite a while without any news so I honestly thought it wasn't being developed further. Great to see it out though, especially since they put in their own campaign. Here's the trailer:

someone please make a MOBA with this engine to run on light configs. we need a lol/dota2 rival for low end devices in this mining craze where every piece of hardware is getting a pricetag bump , not only the GPUs

It's a pretty fun game honestly, but I got up to the puzzle with the 8 switches and I have no idea how to get past it but tedious trial and error so I gave up. There aren't much in the line of hints that I can see, and nothing to indicate when you get the puzzle partly right so you know you're on the right track.

Start a git project. Even if you may not know how to build a game, getting the ball rolling could maybe attract those who do. Or some game design students or something. But then again, I have no idea what I'm talking about really.

I have completed the empyrean campaign, and it's quite excellent. It has a retro diablo 1/2 touch with simple item build and skill tree, i really love this engine demonstration.

A lot of people had problems with this puzzle, so I redesigned it for the next upcoming version, 1.01. The new puzzle better follows the logic for the previous switch puzzles in that area. The new version should go up sometime this weekend.

That sounds good. Will I need to replay the game up to that point with the new version, or what?

Awesome, I remember looking and dreaming about making games with this years ago! Will try.

You won't need to restart in order to see the new puzzle.
I'm excited to see, it's really impressive that they managed to make an open source engine with this much quality. Debian Unstable/Testing seems to have fallen behind in updates for Flare--I hope they get caught up soon.

Looks as though I may have to give Flare another spin :)
