Comedy adventure game HIVESWAP: Act 1 is now on GOG

By - | Views: 6,876

For those who love comedy adventure games, you might want to take a look at HIVESWAP: Act 1 as it's now on GOG.

Made as a love-letter to '90s adventure games, although they do say they made it "without the accompanying frustration", with unique responses for everything you try, rooms full of secrets, hand-animated with detailed environments and more. You will play as Joey Claire, a puzzle-solving teen snatched out of her time (1994) and place (Earth) and stranded on a hostile alien planet on the brink of rebellion.

GOG did their usual awesome thing of sending over a copy, handy since it's a game I didn't actually own and did want to try. As always their installer worked beautifully and since the game comes with both 32bit and 64bit there's no messing around finding libs.

No problems at all while testing, seems to work really well on Linux and seems like a charming adventure!

Grab HIVESWAP: Act 1 on GOG now, also on Humble Store and Steam.

I think it is a great game, developers put a lot of love and effort into it. I can really recommend it, but there are also some buts ...

It's currently unclear when act 2 will come out and if one has to pay for it. It took me just about 4 or 5 hours to complete the game and get all possible steam achievements (ok, I had to consult a guide for the latter). So it is very short. IMHO it is either a tad pricey (10$ per act) or quite cheap (10$ for all 4 acts).

I pretty much sure it will be pay per episode game, maybe with "season pass" or some kind of collection bundle later.

GOG full price says $8 for me and sale price is $6. I think that's quite fair for a 4-5 hour episode. Don't we remember the days of 8-10 hour games that were $40-$50 at release?

Anyway, I really don't gravitate to adventure games... but I'll consider this one. It looks entertaining.

I was in on the Kickstarter way back, so I got it when it came out and I'm glad I invested in it. Great game, ran solid save for two graphical issues that I believe got dealt with pretty quickly. The writing is sharp, and really shows what Andrew Hussie is capable of when he's focused, rather than trolling his fanbase (literally). The bit about non-frustrating puzzles is right. They tend to be intuitive and fairly forgiving, but not so easy that it bores the player.

I am curious to see if Act 2 has the same price, or if there's more content than the first round.
