Stardew Valley multiplayer update coming “in about a month”

By - | Views: 9,653

The long-awaited update to the farming role-playing game should be out soon enough if all goes well. Multiplayer is a highlight but there will be other new features to look forward to as well.

Stardew Valley [Official Site] has been something of a big success for its developer, selling several million copies since its launch in 2016. Much like the long-running Harvest Moon series of games it draws inspiration from, Stardew Valley combines farming and other outdoors activities with a vast cast of NPCs that can be befriended and married. It’s a relaxing sort of game that’s all about leaving hectic modern day life and getting a bit more in touch with nature.

The upcoming 1.3 update will include multiplayer for up to 4 players and has been in development for a while. It should be released in about a month according to a recent tweet by the developer. There will be a few other features included in the update such as signs and hats for horses but there’s still no hard list of features yet.

Still, I imagine we’ll have a good idea of what to expect sometime soon. I’m looking forward to MP as the easy-going pace of the game is probably well-suited to cooperative play. It'll be a good excuse to dive back into this charming world.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

Imagine if ConcernedApe were to have waited to release the game until now and foregone all the success he's had (IIUC Multiplayer is not his strongsuit and he contracted it out)

I am glad that I convinced him to begin the Beta Testing and to go ahead and release when he did. He's made millions of dollars since and it's nice to see nice people succeed at their passions and have their finances set up for them to continue doing cool things.

Finally something to tell my friend who keeps asking when it's going to be coming out. :D

This will be the perfect game to play when GF+me are looking for something relaxing to play.
Right now our go-to game is Vermintide 2, but a) Windows :/ and b) not exactly relaxing ;)

Edit:
Does anyone know how MP will actually be working?
Will it be a dedicated server structure, or will the host basically simulate the entire game on his machine for everyone?
Or does everyone have a copy of the game state?

I'm not worried about cheaters (this is a game you'll likely play with friends, not some random people).

Quoting: GuestHope it comes with a sale. Didn't pick it up last time on a steam sale.
Then again, it's worth them oney either way I guess :)
For that game? Yeah, one of the few games that is actually worth full price.

I second this (Assuming you are not a broke teen or college student and can spare the bucks), I got like a week or two of play out of it when I got my copy.

From what I've read about it I believe it's one person hosting with up to three people joining. The host will be the primary farmer (like in single player now), while everyone else will be "farm hands" who have their own houses on the farm and can interact with villagers, get married, and start families just like the host. This is all just based on reading snippets from Eric Barone though.
