Not to be outclassed by Valve's 'Proton' fork, Wine itself has pushed out another update with Wine 3.15 becoming available today.

Highlights of this fresh brew:

  • Support for DPI scaling on Android.
  • HID device support in Raw Input.
  • Many more new icons in Shell32.
  • WinHTTP converted to use Windows Sockets.
  • Syntax fixes in the command line interpreter.
  • Various bug fixes.

When it comes to bug fixes, they've noted down 44 in the release notes that have been squashed. These includes fixes for: League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Trailmakers, Phase Shift, A.R.E.S. Extinction Agenda and more.

Is Proton really a fork?
Isn't it more of a downstream repackaging like Ubuntu is to Debian?
Or is it more comparable to WINE Vs. WINE-Staging?

Since they applied patches that differ from mainline wine it's a fork.

Sure, strictly speaking Ubuntu is also a Debian fork.
But I think if you keep in sync with upstream and just apply a set of patches, with no intention to diverge the code-base to become incompatible, then fork isn't really the right term I guess.
