INSOMNIA: The Ark, the crowdfunded sci-fi RPG from Mono Studio released for Windows at the end of September, it's still missing the promised Linux version which they've now spoken about.

Here's what they said in their latest Kickstarter update:

We've been asked about the Linux and Mac versions of the game ever since INSOMNIA launched. First of all, we can assure you that this is still a thing and we haven’t changed our plans regarding these platforms.

However, since we are currently working on fixing and improving core parts of the game, bringing two more versions of INSOMNIA to the table would mean even more time spent on testing and bug fixes before each game update. Even now, with only the Windows version available, the patch release process is taking longer than we would like to.

It's not great that we're now almost two months into the release with no Linux support. However, it's quite clear the game has some rather large issues. Do we want a Linux version, full of issues both in terms of bugs and major gameplay mechanics having problems? Or, do we be patient and wait for it to be more polished? I know which one I would choose. They sound clearly committed to it, but time is ticking.

In regards to a release on GOG, it sounds like they need to improve the game before GOG allow it on their store.

Thanks Naib.

With Underworld Ascendant bombing quite a bit, this remains the hope for a new and interesting RPG experience. I hope they manage it from a gameplay and story perspective.

And no promised DRM-free release still.

Regarding missing Linux releases, another one is We Happy Few.

I've been waiting for this since I voted for it on Steam Green Light years ago. I can wait a couple years more, if need be. Still, it's nice to hear updates and assurances.

I should have mentioned, they touched on that in the recent update. It sounds like GOG want them to improve the game first, before listing it on their store.

That suggests the current version should be called a Beta or Early Access. And I fully agree with @Patola, if they don't test Linux from the start, there will be more Linux bugs

They could have chosen any other DRM-free store (itch.io, Humble Store). It is not like GOG owns "DRM-free" brand.

So, in this case I assume they just don't care about those preferring DRM-free.

Yes. Parity is what I want.

We're entitled to the same bugs as the Windows version...!

Some developers seem to be politicians at heart. Full of promises and nigh a deliver.

The game 'runs' on Wine/Proton, though the FPS is often criminally poor (it has improved with the 1.4 update a little).

Some of the mission logs have yet to be translated and some of the inventory images are still placeholders. However, underneath all that is a pretty impressive and deep RPG story which I am thoroughly enjoying at the moment!
