While details are ridiculously light right now as it has only just been teased, Paradox Interactive and Romero Games have teamed up.
“This has been a project we’ve been wanting to work on for a long time, so it’s especially exciting that we’ll be partnering with Paradox Interactive to fully realize that dream,” said Brenda Romero, Co-Founder of Romero Games. “We can’t wait to tell everyone more, so make sure you watch this space!”
All we know, is that it's going to be a strategy game and…well that's really it.
“We are thrilled to work with industry legends, Brenda and John Romero, whose games we’ve grown up playing ourselves and long admired,” said Ebba Ljungerud, CEO of Paradox Interactive. “At Paradox Interactive, we’ve built a reputation for top-tier strategy games and we’re employing that expertise to help build something really special with the team at Romero Games.”
There's a new site up here where you can sign up to get more info. There should be some early info teased out before E3 this year and I imagine the full info then.
I did speak to my press contact about Linux support but they're not currently giving out any details at all. Given Paradox have a reasonable history of Linux support, hopefully we won't be let down on what could be something very interesting. From looking around, it looks like it might possibly be made with the Unity game engine as Brenda Romero did put out a post on Twitter only recently, to mention they're in need of a Unity coder.
As a reminder, John Romero's free "megawad" named SIGIL for the original 1993 DOOM that will be a spiritual successor to the fourth episode of DOOM is due out this year. It was originally due in February but that came and went and I've yet to see an updated date for it.
Companies doing this really annoy me. "wow, we've got a great game coming, always wanted to do it, can't wait to say more!" .....but they're going to say nothing about it now, and are going to wait to say more. I always read this as "we have nothing to show, our new game might well be a turd, so we'll treat it like a horror movie where the monster is very rarely seen".
Yes, I understand that they're trying to build hype or something, but I find it hard to be excited about a game company proudly declaring that they're going to make a game. Unless it was EA or Activision Blizzard stating they're making a game instead of yet another microtransaction engine.
(I did say that I'm grumpy today.)
What games did Romero Games actually make ?!
Or do they just carry his name ?
Quoting: razing32Am i living under a rock ?
What games did Romero Games actually make ?!
Assuming they started making them a decade ago, I'd say we're a decade or two away from seeing their first game.
