Dota Underlords introduces a Duos mode, the Underlords, a new UI and more

Valve just pushed out the aptly named "The Big Update" for Dota Underlords which brings in some huge changes for the free auto-battler game.

The Underlords have arrived, well two of them anyway. Before you begin, you now need to pick either Hobgen or Anessix who will play on the board just like your other heroes. They're the centrepiece of your team and as the game goes on, they will become more powerful as you pick talents for them every few rounds. It's nice, as Underlords has been heavily dependent on RNG so this feels like it gives you at least some kind of real control. They're also quite chatty.

You can also play with a friend in the Duos mode and face off against 7 other teams in an effort to be the last pair standing. It's a proper co-op mode, with you sharing health and you can trade with them too. Another new mode added in today is Freestyle, allowing you to mess around in a sandbox-like environment.

The new UI is live as well with this update, which is a little prettier while not making the game feel so cramped. I think it's a big improvement, although there's a few little issues here and there it's better than the original. You can see it in the below shots (click to enlarge):

New heroes added include Nyx Assassin, Shadow Demon, Dazzle, Magnus, Weaver, Io, Legion Commander, Lifestealer, Bristleback, Broodmother, Faceless Void and Sven. Since they've added in a number of new heroes with this update, they've also added in the Jail. Every 24 hours, a number of heroes will be detained there to not overwhelm players. However, Valve have been careful to ensure every single Alliance can still be completed even when some heroes aren't in.

A very interesting update overall and quite exciting to see how differently it plays. Seems to still work nicely on Linux with my testing earlier too. See the full changelog on Steam here.

I can't get a connection to the game. I started playing Artifact again. A fantastic card game by Richard Garfield and Valve.

But in the end I'm happy that Valve is so successful with Underlords. I like Valve because of the fantastic Linux support.

EDIT: But thank you for keeping us up to date. Maybe I'll look at Underlords again.

As for me Underlord is another dead game. Every month player base is smaller and smaller...

It has around 30k players daily, to me that's a healthy playerbase. Underlords will have more players around updates and it hade alot of players on its release day, like most games. It will probably peak again once its out of early access. It's a casual game and I don't play it myself, but it's far from dead

I played against bots until I could beat the highest level for this very reason.
