After being quiet about it for a while, Paradox are once again updating their rather old strategy game Crusader Kings II.

The last patch for this 2012 grand strategy game from Paradox Development Studio and Paradox Interactive was back in June and that was quite small. However, it did have a major update only in May with Crusader Kings II: 3.2 Iron Century.

Now we have a brand new update currently available for Beta testing 3.2.2, which brings full 64bit support for Crusader Kings II. Something important to note is that when the update is live, Paradox will no longer support 32bit for Crusader Kings II. If you own it, you can opt into the open Beta for it on Steam and report issues to help make the Linux version nice and stable.

Don't own Crusader Kings II? It's available from Humble Store and Steam.

Now onto something perhaps a little more exciting!

With the PDXCON event coming up soon, Paradox Interactive are beginning to tease a little more. They announced on Twitter that another new game is in the works and will be announced at PDXCON. From what they said it will be developed by Paradox Development Studio, it's a grand strategy game and it's not Victoria 3.

Considering Paradox Development Studio seem to continue supporting Linux like with their most recent title Imperator, hopefully this will too. Any thoughts as to what it might be?

If the new launcher is there when it updates, I am going to cry.

As to the new game, really not sure. With this being the 200th anniversary year of Queen Victoria's birth, I thought that Victoria 3 would have been a perfect release for this year's con, but will have to wait and see.

This is irritating. I start to believe that I will see half Life 3 before Victoria 3.

I wish they would fix the UI so it's readable at modern resolutions.

In the latest EU4 dev diary among the very few things they said was
QuoteSome Linux users find the game failing to start unless they launch the game directly, which is a high priority for us to fix as soon as possible.

Yay! We're a high priority as soon as possible!

Today they released a hotfix for EU4 that supposedly fixes the issue. I won't be able to try for a while (not today, maybe not until Saturday), but I assume it will be fixed for next release.

Just tried after the hotfix and it seems to work just fine :)

Quoting: HoriWhat about Stellaris? IMO that game actually needs 64bit more than CK2, as it seems to me more memory consuming mid-late game.

If I have to bet on the reasons behind those memory footprints it's because the game has more sophisticated graphical assets which ofc occupy more memory.

Personally I think graphics is the best thing of Stellaris. Then the game could use even more ofc. But in this regard, the old CK2 can definitely benefit more from 64bits than Stellaris. :)

I just tried, and it worked alright for me (other than setting my desktop resolution to 1280×720 the first time). It seems to set all DLC to on and mods to off (due to some big incompatibility with previous versions), so just be aware of that.

If they're doing it for CK II, I'm sure it's coming for Stellaris eventually. It's probably just a matter of fitting it into the release schedule. I bet it'll be announced along with the new Stellaris expansion that's been teased for PDXCon.

CKII running fine for me in 64 bit, only gave it an hour though.

One of the reasons why Paradox is by far my most favorite publisher is that they keep their games alive for a good portion of eternity.

About the new game - I would hope for a modern day strategy title, for a change. Since the world is headed towards World War III anyway, they can get some inspiration from contemporary events, I guess?
