Get your space legs ready for X4: Foundations to expand into a much bigger game. Egosoft have now announced the X4: Split Vendetta expansion and a huge free 3.0 update will release on March 31.

Egosoft say this is going to be the biggest update to their open-world space sim since release, pulling in lots of new goodies for everyone. The 3.0 update will add in a whole new storyline with special diplomatic missions, new systems to discover, French voice-over, 3 new tutorials, new ships, a new unlockable game start, a configurable alert system, new weapons, an improved graphics engine and improved sound effects are just some of what to expect from it.

As for the Split Vendetta expansion, the first major expansion to the game in the form of a DLC, will include a ton of extras as well. New story missions with two split family clans, a "massive" expansion of the universe, new "Split weapon technology", new ships, lots of new station modules, new ways to start the game and a whole lot more too.

Looks like the user overview has started to turn around, while on Steam it's still being reviewed as "Mixed" overall at least the most recent have started to turn it positive.

You can grab X4: Foundations and the DLC from Humble Store, GOG and Steam.

The X4: Split Vendetta expansion will be priced at $14.99 / £12.49 / €14.99, and it's the first of two expansions that will come with the X4: Foundations Collector's Edition.

X4 is getting progressively really better and less buggy with the set of latest 3.0beta updates.
Still, lots of space for improvement, especially on the side of AI behaviour for big ships...

I play the Beta 3 since December and sunk more than 70 hours into it.
The game is great and absolutely recommendable.

If you like sandbox games, where you have a lot to explore, a lot to try out and can do what you want, you should give it a try.
  • You want to be a trader? -> no problem!

  • You want to be a pirate? --> OK!

  • You want to build big space stations --> Do it!

  • You want to fight --> Hell yes, why not!

  • You want to sabotage your competitors' production facilities? --> go for it!

  • You want to play honest and friendly--> possible too!

  • You want to do a mixture of the above--> no problem!

  • You want to fulfill contracts for factions--> YEP

  • and that is not all that is possible to do

There are still things to optimize, but it runs well, is a lot of fun and they support Linux in a great way. Do you need any more reasons to buy it?

Quoting: PatolaLooking forward to try Split Vendetta, I bought the Collector's Edition of X4 with the season pass since I have a lot of trust in Egosoft. And this trust is well-earned, they are doing great with the 3.0 beta updates, game is much smoother, and it is a complete joy to play this game, which starts as an unconventional spaceship game with capability to leave the ship and gradually transforms into an RTS and trading game, then into a sophisticated market exchange and planning simulator with a special point with managing crises.
So, it sounds like it's reaching the potential that Egosoft had for the game, which is great. I've already purchased it to recognize Egosoft's Linux support, but have hesitated to sink in the time until the game goes through its usual Egosoft "maturing" period. Sounds like the time to dive in is near...

Ah, the Split have joined the fun... if I remember correctly next big release will be Terrans, followed by Boron (finally).

Just curious, does this game support VR?

Nope, only a X Rebirth version with VR.
