Last week NVIDIA released a new Vulkan Beta Driver which came with some issues, a new build has gone out today fixing some of the most pressing.

Driver 440.66.11 fixes:

  • Fixed several synchronization bugs that could momentarily lock up the X server when moving/resizing/focusing OpenGL and Vulkan windows when PRIME Sync is enabled [Linux]
  • Fixed a bug which caused horizontal lines to corrupt full screen Vulkan applications [Linux]

In regards to the first issue, you can see some forum posts on the NVIDIA community about it here and here. The corruption problem in the second bullet-point actually only happened in the previous 440.66.09 release.

You can find the Vulkan Beta Driver here.

Reminder: you know it's a special Beta driver thanks to the additional two numbers on the end of the version string, with the newest stable version of the NVIDIA driver for Linux at 440.82 which released on April 7. This special Vulkan developer beta driver is where all the shiny new stuff goes in before making its way into the stable release for everyone.

Mmmm... Could probably solve an issue with a GTX laptop that I'm testing, atm... When I try to raise the sound, while playing a game, the whole display freezes for about ten seconds, before resuming (if it resumes).

I had that with xfce on manjaro when I used a bluetooth headset.

I needed the reference to appreciate it:

"Bluetooth is a wireless technology named after Harald Bluetooth, based on an analogy that Bluetooth technology would unite devices the way Harald Bluetooth united the tribes of Denmark into a single kingdom."

I'm among the few who had heard of the viking king decades before I heard of the technology. He was a character in a great book I read as a kid, "The Long Ships" by Frans Bengtsson. Totally fun historical fiction about vikings.
