...i'm pretty sure that if they would port it "as is" to a modern platform, it would require about 1000x the processing power and 1000x the ram.

This has been "in progress" for years.
Sad... I had no way of knowing. Didn't followed this thread that often... Someone pointed out it just changed, but it seems it was false.
You being a GoG "veteran" I have no doubt that you know better than many.

I'm fully committed to buying games on GoG ... but only through a Linux Galaxy client. Until then, this brings my GoG library to 30 titles ... all free. Thanks GoG!

Excellent question! In my case I "exploited" my older brother who bought that computer for his programmation courses. He's 13 years older than me so...
What programming course is he taking that he needs an Apple 2 ? Really curios now.
Did you miss this was decades ago?
Which leads me to another question:
Might it be possible that Linux especially appeals to (us) old farts?
If those devices still work after all that time i am more than impresse they still work.
I suspected some people boguht them out of nostalgia/collection status.

Both happens of course. My Sony MSX-1 from '84 was all fine when I tried last time. (It was so modern that it already had SCART while my TV was so outdated that it still had SCART, so I didn't even have a connection problem :-D ). Impressive indeed!

Funny thing... My brother kept the Apple IIe... Last time he checked (3 or 4 years ago), it was still working. It's his master piece in what he calls his "Museum of Horrors".

My dad's first computer was commandeered by me at age 13 (Franklin Ace 1200 Apple II compatible). I mean, I let him borrow it for work and whatnot, but it became mine.
My first game was Wizardry: Proving Grounds (which, in my opinion, sparked the wick of future RPGs).
I will always have a special place in my heart for these old RPGs.
And yes, it would be nice to have GoG Galaxy native on Linux, but I am quite happy with the direction of Lutris.

I'm Linux-only user and I think it'd be great to get Galaxy for Linux, but let's face the fact that Steam made a huge progress here, with their one-click SteamPlay. 2 years ago Galaxy for Steam would be nice replacement. Today Steam client is something more for Linux users, it gives you access to almost full library, no matter Win/Mac/Linux official support. I doubt company like GOG would be ever able to deliver this kind of solution for us...

GOG should really be contributing to Proton at least. Long term, you're not going to be able to keep these old Win32 games running natively in Windows 10 forever. It's really going bite them in the ass one day if they don't.
